...why Cardiff didn't get a penalty when Collins cleaned their bloke out in the second half? I can't remember ever seeing a clearer penalty, it was like the ref had an aneurysm or summat
From my seat it looked clearer than that. Dropped the ball, the forward nicked it and he bundled him over. I can’t believe it wasn’t a penalty - I was expecting that and a red card as he didn’t go for the ball, just the man.
To be fair, Paterson shoved our centre half over first. But then if the ref doesn't give that, he's got to give a penalty for GBH.
I can tell you - the ref followed the ball, and was looking the other way. I had clear sight of it all and for me, the ref just didn’t see it. When everyone called for it, he probably saw Peterson involved and thought even less about it - he’d been winding folk up all afternoon. Nobody’s fault, just one of those things. I liked Peterson tbh - we miss a player like him. Also note he’s traditionally a RB, who can play ACM or striker. Great asset for Cardiff and also winds up the opposition.
So if the ref was looking the other way then surely the linesman should have seen the situation?! We were very lucky not to concede a penalty.
Can’t answer that - just presume the linesman didn’t see it or simply didn’t think it was. If you were in the East Stand, you’d see the same view to confirm that. I just happened to see what the ref was doing at that point and noted he was following the ball.
I was in the ESL and called a penalty straight away. I assume the linesman was looking straight at it, just find it bizarre he didn't give it!
I sit right behind the linesman. He saw it but did nothing - as they generally do. They're terrified of making any decision at all. Case in point in the second half with all the corners they had - ball not touching quadrant right in front of linesman. He does nothing.
It’s amazing how things like this get looked over. Surely VAR would’ve given a free kick to us for the Paterson foul. However, I was still amazed they didn’t get the penalty though
Perhaps he would’ve given the foul by Paterson in the first instance, then the penalty incident wouldn’t have come into the equation
Just one more on a long list of nailed on penalties not given at Oakwell. Granted it's the first time we've benefited from the momentary blindness but it was a strange decision all the same.
Looked a clear pen to me but I was in the Ponty so it was a long way off. There was also a clear penalty at the Ponty end in the second half when their player did a classic hand-off on Schmidt. Maybe the ref was taking a lead from the prime minister and did his own bit of levelling up......
Looked nailed on to me I was surprised at the time that Cardiff's players weren't more incensed it wasn't given.
If he had given a penalty I would have been furious, cos the foul on our defender was as clear as day. In the words of Mrs Slocombe, yesterdays referee was as weak as water.
