You know the books set after some plague or virus ( or war) has wiped out a large part of the population I've read a few over the years and my imagination could have done without the helping shove at the moment

It's not so much the wiping out of humanity that worries me, it's the possibility that I may survive and be surrounded by idiots. Take "The Walking Dead", for instance. You survive the zombie apocalypse, and end up living with a bunch of tough, battle-hardened, do-whats-needed types... only to find that they put you in danger week in, week out, by taking stupid and unnecessary risks. One of my favourite books is the post-apocalyptic "Earth Abides" by George R Stewart. A little dated in parts, but generally it holds up pretty well.
No. I know there is a problem and I'm well aware of the personal measures we must take but equally its not quite the zombie apocalypse that some are portraying.
Oh one of the classics. The best one I read recently was The Girl with all the gifts we’ll actually I listened to the audiobook. Highly recommended
