At this time of the year there are loads of cars coming up for MOT testing. I wonder what the government will do about this if we have to self isolate.

I have my car booked in for mot on Monday morning at 10. Hoping I’m fit enough to take it and that the garage is still open.

Also booked for Monday. I believe that the DVLA are preparing to issue exemption certificates for tests cancelled by the DVLA. Not sure if there will be the staff to carry out the tests now the Schools are closed

I would imagine staff will try to get in. Secondary aged kids and last year primary will be ok home alone .

You would think even in a long term lock down a lot of things would continue even if they become more limited. Cars will still need to be repaired.
Factories will still need operate. Some tradesmen will still need to work to fix gas and electrical problems for example.
I don't know i could be misreading things.

The 6 weekly tests are not M.O.T,s they are routine maintenance checks carried out by the vehicle operator. H.G.v’s and coaches are subject to an annual M.O.T from being 12 months old. The current situation is unclear we have been told by our local test station that they expect the test to be suspended from next week. If this were the case I would expect exemption certificates to be issued for the duration of the suspension

That’s way I see it. The lockdown will be for the social aspects of life. People (me included) will still have to travel to work by car. I assume public transport may be stopped? If vehicles are still on the road I imagine places like MOT centres will stay open. Could be wrong like...

Yes everyone is just purely speculating it's all we can do. If the route taken is the long term lock down with no exit plan I can see it been more like that. It will still be incredibly restrictive but people will still need to travel.

Mine is booked in for next Thursday. As of today the booking is still going ahead but I'm expecting it to be cancelled.

I honestly can’t see why it’ll be cancelled. Even in lockdown, which I don’t think we’ll be in next week, essential travel would still go on. People need their cars to get to work and if it needs an MOT then it’ll get one. Both mine and my son’s is due in the next 6 weeks so I bloody hope so...

I hope so too but mine is booked through the leasing company and they have said they will be reviewing bookings.

If Kwik Fit remains open I'm not going to be impressed if the booking is cancelled.

I would expect most garages and tyre centres etc to operate some sort of service especially as all the key workers at least need to be able to travel and cars will need service repair tyres MOT's etc - Almost as essential as food and medical shops in my opinion

What I am not sure about is whether I can take my lawnmower in for a service - if the garden machinary shop I use is forced to close when they have it how would I get it back

All theory tests are cancelled (daughter was scheduled for today). Expect driving tests will be the same.
