Really hope everyone gets involved tonight .

My wife will just be about returning home from working in ICU at Sheffield Hallam at that time from 6am start this morning .

Would also like to extend this to all staff working in supermarkets, schools and nurseries .

I'm happy i get over 8 weeks holiday, get full sick pay for 6 months and will receive a generous pension. Also not forgetting those that will take a full year off on maternity with pay.
    It's all about the package.
I didn't get any of this when i worked in the private healthcare service and my wage was lower. All the above costs the nhs an awful lot of money. We have to pay another member of staff to replace us if on sick or mat leave so 2 wages.

No need to race to the bottom. Sick pay should be a right for every worker as should maternity pay and decent holiday entitlement.

you get more than 56 days a year annual leave? Which trust affords you that? Please confirm. I’m sure I know a lot of nurses that will be applying. Wages for band 5 nurses are below the average uk wage as per ONS and nurses are on average 8% worse off in real terms than they were in 2010. Love the more than 56 days holiday thing though. Even the royals get less than you.

as for the rest. Construction companies offer 6 months full pay. It’s not particularly great but yes if you were a HCA for a private company you are undoubtedly better off in the NHS. But it hen so add people who work at Aldi.

Yes i get 8 weeks. Holidays increase after 5 and 10 years service. In fact i get 8.75 weeks. So no need to be cocky when you really haven't a clue. I work full-time nhs hours. I do these hours in 3 long shifts a week (important to note my working week is 3 days not 5). My annual leave is thus worked out accordingly. I get 315 hours a year. Divide this by 12 hrs (the paid shift) = 26.25 days. I work 3 days a week so divide 26.25 with 3 which equals 8.75 weeks holiday.
I've not met anyone yet who previously worked in private healthcare who says they were better off when looking at the whole package.
    # perhaps you should edit your comments about holidays out?

I hope all the political parties now realise just how important our NHS is and what a superhuman job they do. This corona virus has really shown just how much we truly need them. In fact all our emergency and public services.

As a postie its like Christmas the amount of parcels and packets we are delivering, clothes, a small freezer, huge plant pot toilet rolls, an axe, wine and beer are just a few things we've delivered but it's the NHS staff want a medel.

Yes it should. If i was ill when i worked in private i would have to phone my colleagues and ask if they'd do my shifts and i'd do theirs a week or 2 later when i would hopefully be better: would get ssp otherwise. The point is we are extremely fortunate to work in the nhs and enjoy the safety net and benefits that comes with it.

Great that ITV paused its programmes at 8 pm to ask folks to applaud our heroes
that make up the NHS. They are absolute gems, every single one of them.
Applause is nice, but a cash bonus would be better.
