Lots of scenarios to consider. As it stands 12 weeks lockdown is looking like a best case scenario. If EFL and Prem do stick to plan and complete fixtures season would finish July/August. You would assume then that summer break drastically shortened and 20/21 season delayed e.g. October start? Add to that transfer windows and most player contracts end June/July this adds further complexity. More you think about it makes sense to end season now. But repercussions could see legal action brought by clubs affected by promotion or relegation. Let's assume they do end season now. How do they do this? - season abandoned (starts again) e.g. Liverpool stripped of title and Leeds promotion hope's. - End as tables as they stand. Would clubs accept this? - End season using super computer or attribute points for remaining games based on form. Financial Fair Play Then there is the situation with clubs breaking FFP rules. If the EFL acted like rugby counterparts then penalties would have been already applied (this season). If season ends and penalties applied this could save us. If season effectively written off and starts again, I hope penalties applied ready for start of new season. This would be best outcome for us in my opinion i.e. new season with opportunity to recruit and start with points advantage over handful of teams. What do people realistically think will happen. But key priority is not football. Hope all Oakwell and football family stay safe and in good health.
If the season is cancelled, I just can’t see past annulling the season in total as if it doesn’t exist. Yes there will be clubs that might not like that but I can’t see a fairer way and I can’t see how anyone would win a legal case given how the events occurred and how everyone is treated the same.
Yeah, but that still means bottom team in champ goes down as need to make room for 3 that come up. Or change to 1 auto then playoffs in lge1, but then youd need to do same in other leagues aswell. Like you say, too many implications to faf around. Just cancel it and write it all off.
Top 2 teams in premier winners and runners up simple solution. However increases premier league extra 2 teams which is good
What about playoffs. Teams will then have cause for appeal if you abolish them at this point. Just dont see that happening at all.
You cant tweak rules halfway through a season. It opens up a can of worms and legal challenges. However if season is cancelled and reason given is force majure, then no one can appeal.. As it's been said already about player contracts etc.
It's not tweaking rules it's going to be difficult to finish the league's. Hence promote the top 2. Just been announced on news all league's below EFL been cancelled
I'd like to see little playoff tournaments for the promotion and relegation spots. Each league needs to be looked at sensibly and a pragmatic approach taken to who needs to play against who to decide spots. E.g. in the Prem have the bottom 6 play a little tournament. Give Liverpool the title as they're 25 points clear and have Chelsea down to Arsenal play off for European spots. Championship: Leeds and West Brom play off for the title. Have an extended 8 team play offs, Fulham down to Blackburn. 8 team playoff for relegation. Have them seeded, like the real playoffs - so we have to play against Stoke, the highest of the 8 teams. This is the only way I can imagine it, if they can't finish the season properly. It's a little bit generous to us though - I can imagine some people think we should just be relegated and I can't really argue!
Finacial repercussions from this could cripple many clubs. The world and football will be very different. Thankfully we appear to be financially sound and the youth model keeps our wage bill down. If season is abandoned, many rival clubs already in a finacial mess, FFP offenders will likely start with point deductions, with our lads starting to gel having had 2/3rd season playing together complimented by a couple of additions, we should be set up for a good return.
I'm sure the FA will be or already av discussed the possibility of no further football, lets wait an c. squad average points to date an relegate and promote on that basis. WERE DOOOMED.
Well, we won’t be playing in 12 weeks! That is for certain. My best guess would be; an abandonment of the 2020/21 season entirely. The (current) 2019/20 season to recommence from March 2021 to complete the season.
liverpool is arguably fair enough. Why should Bournemouth go into lottery of a mini tournament when they are in a relegation spot by 1 goal? They could argue their fixtures upto this point have been harder(maybe). What about Fulham only 6 points off West Brom and have both Leeds and WBA to play, win both and right in mix. In league one it’s even worse with 6 teams within 3 points of Rotherham And so on
