this season is surely done for. the simplest way to go on the bare face of it is to wait however long it takes and just start again, whatever that time frame is. this obviously isn't as simple as it sounds with player contracts, TV deals, Sponsorship etc. Id do these things to satisfy the most amount of clubs and reward good performance. i dont think any solution satisfies everyone. work out a PPG for every club and then end the season with all league tables finalised in those positions. The champions of each league and those in the promotion places are awarded the league winners / clubs are promoted no play offs No relegation* To balance out the league over the next 2 years relegate 1 or 2 more clubs than normal to regain the current league structure. *Relegate Sheffield Wednesday. That should sort it!
All non league football finished now . Teams upset already . No promotions no relegations. Could this be the start EFL next
Are rules for non league different. No thats why this outcome has to be the same for everybody or else there will be problems. Who are clubs going to sue(probably boris johnson some on here) the chinese for causing this virus.Surely if we are able to start next season with not much delay then only this yr gets spoilt. Bad luck for some.Good luck for others.
A love debates like this. My opinion on it all, may sound crazy too, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit of we didn’t see another game played this year! If reading specialists views on reducing the spread of this disease then they say social distancing could remain in place for upto 18 months, how the hell do you start a football campaign back up and not adhere to that ruling, it’s impossible. A don’t think most teams would like the idea of closers games either and if they did there’s still best part of 100 people mixing from players, coaches, staff etc so again that dosent adhere to the social distancing rules! It could well start again in 2021, finish whats started and totally miss out the 20-21 season
Promotion and relegation assessed by the average squad age. Youngest go down, oldest go up ..... oh hang on.... Bloody hell, not only are we sh.it but we are the youngest at being sh.it.
I think this is going to go on for longer than we all hope, so best case scenario for me would be to finish this season when it's safe to do so. With the Euros now being played next summer it's probably best if they just cancelled next season all together.
I was just thinking it's fairest in terms of relegation and promotion. OK, it might cost clubs a lot of money, but it wouldn't be fair if clubs in with a chance of promotion couldn't take it. Although it could benefit my own team, I still don't see it as fair we stopped up at the expense of someone at the top of league one like Rotherham.
Appreciate this is insignificant compared to what is happening in the world. But thought I'd add some football debate. Honestly can't see us kicking a ball again this season. What ever is decided by EPL and EFL, one thing for certain will be not everyone will agree and teams and fans will feel that there has been an injustice. Imagine Liverpool not lifting premier league trophy. Leeds missing out on promotion. Sheff utd wonder season written off.
Clubs badly run for years will be in the poo. Birmingham for example have already shown their hand so the 30 million they expected for a player will be far lower now. Clubs who have gambled for too long will have to accept less for players to keep a cashflow.
Yeah I agree it's not completely fair for Bournemouth's extra few points over Norwich to not count for much - apart from who they play in the playoff. But at least it places the survival of these teams in their own hands League one is a minefield, but maybe a playoff of 2nd down to 9th? With two promoted from it. Making it into a mini competition between the teams close to each other seems like the fairest route to me. Everyone has their chance to end the season how they want to - much harder to complain when you had a fair game to decide things.
Like much in life not everything is fair. Football authorities have certainly fallen into that category. But I genuinely think there is no option. But to scratch this season . The rest is unknown until the world gets back to some normality. If say for example that becomes October do we then have games and play offs . If so when they are over when does the next season start.
Clubs would go bankrupt at over a year without revenue. Then if the 21-22 season can start on time many clubs will try and make back the money lost over the previous 12+ months by ramping up season pass prices to silly amounts. I bet whatever our own club was going to offer for early bird won't anywhere near that amount when we can watch live football again.
Really they should be furloughing their players like everyone else in the country. Instead they're paid to sit at home for how long?
ha ha. Thanks. I didn’t put forward the proposition because it’s what I’d like to see. I put it forward because I don’t believe there will be any professional football played in this Country during the whole of 2020. Therefore there is no feasible way in which the 2020/21 season could take place. Quite convenient for the football authorities in the sense that they can conclude the current season (2019/20) during late winter/early Spring, which deals with some of their contractual and legal issues.
Priority should still be to finish the season. If money for this season's games have to go back to broadcasters, that will have a devastating effect on clubs. Finishing the season also ensures the integrity of the competition. Would also suggest the following; 1) It's easier to cancel competitions that have not started yet, so if next season's Carabao cup has to go, then so be it. Can also cut international friendlies 2) Chances of playing a full season in front of fans from August to May, without disruption are slim. So to suggest that this season should be cancelled to plan for next is flawed imo. 3) There is some restructuring required over the next two seasons anyway, because of a winter world cup. Worst case scenario is that this season is voided, only for next season to be cancelled anyway
