If this season is scrapped and titles, promotions and watnot are scrapped, how's about no relegation but every football league club is promoted (sort of).

92 clubs divided into 2 divisions of 46.

Top division made up of all current premier league and championship clubs plus the top 2 from league one.

Second tier made up of rest of league 1 and all of league 2.

Play each other once, that's a 45 game season. 1 less than current football league clubs play.

After 1 season split back into 4 divisions, top 20 in top division become the premier league, next 20 in championship with 6 teams relegated and top 4 in second tier join championship. Bottom 24 become league 2.

Could also include playoffs if 6 down is too squeaky bum time.

No doubt broadcasters would hate it as would the greed league but I thought it might be fairer than just starting the season from scratch or relegating teams who still have a chance of staying up.

    (Don's tin hat)

    Thoughts?

Not a bad idea but impossible to do as playing each other once isn't feasible ie who's at home to who? Who decides that? This obviously has financial implications.
By the way I think my suggestion of points per £1 spent works better but then again I would

    Great idea.
As such it has no chance of being implemented.

Problem is Premier league sold its soul to Sky, so as they’ve already agreed broadcast rights for next season Sky might not go for it - or alternatively like the idea but say that as that wasn’t agreed they’d go with it as long as Prem accepted less for the rights for that season - would the Prem teams then be in favour if they were to lose money?

Give the big boys what they crave. (Man Utd Man City Liverpool Chelsea Spurs Arsenal) A European super league. I would not lose any sleep. and let's have 4 leagues below. Give me a game against Wendy. Blunts or Weeds anytime. Get more joy out of beating them than most of the European elite. So whilst we scratch this season. My preferred choice. Start afresh with the rest only promotion and no relegation. Fkuc the big boys off. And for those who don't think it would be an attractive proposition for fans . Average attendances for college football is 40,000 plus. Florida Gators 86,000 average.

Many of the South American leagues work like that - first half of the season (Apertura), they play each other once then second half of the season they do the rest (Clausura). Winners of the apertura and clausura, and the top four other teams by aggregate qualify for the end of season playoffs and the continental competitions. Argentina currently has about 30 teams in the top division...

Whatever the decision is it will be a purely financial one. Nothing else matters.

    Didn’t Scotland do something similar?

The Scottish premier play each other three times. 33 games then the top 6 play each other once. Same with the bottom 6. Total 38 games. It doesn't follow that after completing the season. The sixth can be replaced by a club finishing up with more points from the bottom 6.
