....and we had to accept promotion/relegation based upon points so far... why is that fairer than taking e.g. the last 10, or 20 games as an indicator? Or what has happened so far? Presumably there is a sophisticated computer model which could work out the present trends, which could guestimate where we might all eventually end up? That seems fairer to me than anything else. I'm not sure our relatively upward trend would save us. But i'd be happy with an impartial model, irrespective of its ultimately damning conclusion.
well the computerised calculator on this site has us bottom at the end of the season https://thefishy.co.uk/home.php
Only finishing the games to play will be seen as fair whether the same players or not . Anything else anyone comes up with will be controversial and unfair in all different corners. If these games can’t be played for whatever reason it’ll be tin hats in all directions .imo
Wonder what would happen if a Club LEGALLY challenged the whole concept of playing games after the season has 'finished' on the grounds that players who were out of contract have moved on - a depleted team being at a disadvantage, it's not safe to play because of the risk of CV to players and officials etc.
I think the final points tally should be based on the number of threads on club message boards that discuss possible solutions for finishing the season. Using this method, we're currently on course for a top two finish.
If we factor in the number of Brexit threads on a football message board we'd have the league title sewn up.
I'd imagine the League would argue that as we systematically sell our best players in summer anyway that's not much of a defence.
I couldn’t complain either way. If it’s voided and we stay in the Championship, then we count our blessings and hopefully learn from this season’s sh.itshow. If the league ends & current standings count, then fair enough; we’ve been genuinely awful & fully deserve relegation.
Scrap league, those in promotion position s now go up them in bottom go down ,its only a game .life goes on .
It would make more sense to just void the season and prepare for the 2020/21 season. They've already voided it from the tiers below National League North & South and I've read today Belgium are voiding their league also. Because if they resumed in late April or early May you've got 9 games at least left of season, not including cup finals, play-offs etc and then pre-season begins. Season wouldn't end up starting till October/November time.
most contracts end at the end of the football season - say 31 May. If the season has to be 'completed' then it will probably be August ?? at the earliest before that happens. Those out of contract players may not want a short term contract to see the season out or they may want a longer contract or possibly no contract at all or a contract elsewhere. A club with a number of key players out of contract will be so disadvantaged they may argue that the season cannot continue beyond 31 May - the only solution being to void this season. It would be unfair to take the present standings as final to decide who is promoted/relegated - some teams played more games than others etc. (look at Aston Villa's position.)
What is stopping clubs from signing players if those players choose to leave? If you void this season will those clubs not need new players after may anyway?
Stan Collymore wrote about no relegations this season but 5 would drop next year. Those in promotion spots would be promoted. Obviously would be some discontent around play offs but it's exceptional circumstances. Can't see us completing the season.
That would be very unfair. Five down from the Premier League could lead to a side being relegated with a points total sufficient for mid-table in most seasons.
