That i similar to the figure from the study from 2 hospitals in Wuhan - a small sample, probably about 200 patients. If you go on mechanical vent, basically you are so fkd you cannot breath on your own, and have multiple organ failure. I get why we want to be seen to get all these ventilators but really its window dressing once you cannot breath. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30566-3/fulltext "32 patients required invasive mechanical ventilation, of whom 31 (97%) died. The median time from illness onset to invasive mechanical ventilation was 14·5 days (12·0–19·0). Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was used in three patients, none of whom survived."
The NHS say two-thirds of those who need to be hooked up to a ventilator die from the illness. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...onavirus-patients-hooked-ventilators-die.html
Covid-19 is a highly infectious disease that kills the vulnerable and those with preexisting conditions particularly. Separate hospitals are a form of quarantine, allowing expertise to be concentrated and cross contamination risk so far as possible contained.
