We’ve swapped one FA Cup conqueror for another. Questions for Brian Howard in this thread please. Will keep the Disco ones for a rearranged date.
Has he ever been to.... He has a bit of a reputation as someone who went to ground easily. What would he say to that?
Brian was Club captain and a very influential member of the team. He was also very popular with the fans. At the time he left, I recall that he asked our owner to either pay him what he was worth or to sell him for a realistic fee. Is he able to divulge, was the reason he left, purely down to money, or was there another underlying reason.? At the time of his transfer, Patrick Cryne stated that if Sheffield United's Michael Tonge was valued at £3-£4 million Brian Howard was worth at least £10 million. Is he able to tell us what Sheffield United ended up paying for him please.? Was there ever a time where he regretted leaving Oakwell.?
Bit of a difference between what PC said he was worth re- £10 million and what he let him go for if that's the case.
Was going out of contract wasn't he? Injuries, the £10 million fee, not playing, etc. were all after Patrick's comments. Patrick was also comparing him to another player, whilst always giving the caveat that a player is only ever worth what someone else is willing to pay.
To be fair he's always been honest about his regret at joining the Blunts. I remember us playing them at Oakwell on Sky Sports and when we scored he was going crazy celebrating our goal in the Sky box they used to have to the left of the west stand.
Another question for BH. In his opinion, who was the best player he played alongside during his time at Oakwell.?
1. How did the players celebrate after the Liverpool game? 2. What does he think to men wearing white linen trousers and flip flops for watching a football match at Oakwell?
1. How do you get a middle name of Brotherton? Why is your full name longer than a Downton Abbey character? 2. What was the reason behind his ineligibility to play for Scotland? 3. How do you go from playing in the Championship to signing a one-month "administration" contract at Portsmouth? 4. And what was CSKA Sofia like! The above questions are meant with good intentions. I'm not quite sure why a player of the calibre of Brian descended into a journeyman footballer so quickly and ended in early retirement. It would be good to know why - without being downright offensive.
1 Where are you living now. It seemed you stayed in the area quite a while. and how did you get on with the locals. Outside of the full house that is. 2. Having Conor Hourianne and Jacob Brown as a couple of players you represent. it appears you take younger players on and hate the way some agents operate. Care to expand. 3 Re Q2. Are there any young players on your books who you would recommend to the manager given our policy on the preference on youth over experience. 4. Re Q2 Would you please ask and persuade Conor to come on loan if he just becomes a bench warmer at villa. 5 Was Simon Davey as good as his qualifications. As a fan I got the impression we were there to be talked to and not listened to ( unapproachable). God help if he was like that with the players.
Firstly, thank him for everything he did for us. Secondly, does he think he was as 'professional' as he could have been off the field?
Brian Howard made my day when he signed my giant killers T shirt after the Chelsea FA Cup match at Oakwell. Even his Mum, Dad and his neighbour signed it along with Devaney and Kayode Odejayi. The T shirt is framed and takes pride of place in my Barnsley FC shrine here on the Isle of Man.
