Really I just find with all the chaos and job losses around to pick the workers from The Sun as a cause to be unhappy about is a strange one

I too have been made redundant twice - both times through no fault of my own and its not a pleasant experience. I have a genuine concern it may happen again in the next few months - initially that concern was Brexit related something the Sun was in no small part helping drive happen, but now its increased substantially by the economic situation caused by this virus.

Can I honestly say I wouldnt work for The Sun - I hope I would find some other solution. I stopped working for arms manufacturers many years ago and even when I was out of work didn't consider working for them. For me to work for the Sun even if it was the only job going and I was starving I would think long and hard. In my eyes its only marginally less bad than working for a drugs cartel or pyramid selling call centre.
Yes I know they have some employees who are only doing a job - doubtless you would have been unhappy for the sailors who lost their jobs when transporting slaves was finally banned

Many of the (British) sailors selling slaves simply changed where they sold their slaves to. We didn't abolish the ownership of slaves until nearly 30 years after the slave trade was abolished in the British Empire. And it was legal in the USA for another 30 years after that.

It's interesting to note that during the miners' strike many workers for the Sun campaigned and fundraised for the miners. I read accounts of this in researching the Barry Hines archive. They were part of their own trade union SOGAT. Must have been a mad situation to be in.

Never said anything against the workers. I was simply making an observation that The Sun is owned by a rather wealthy gentleman who surely can help those very workers which I assume he won't.

I do hope workers In general are helped out by these big owners/ fat cats but who am I to assume...

sorry was nearly with you until you put the bit about putting principles before feeding family because I would do anything for mine.
And quite honestly the downright insulting last paragraph which is downright insulting and beneath comment.
I think it speaks volumes that the press you single out are all the right wing press ( mainly rightly so) whilst ignoring the ****** that such the laughingly named Independent churns out.
Like I say I don’t single out any one because I only occasionally read them in passing and if I do I don’t favour any one

Its a difficult one that though isnt it - In reality if it was work for the Sun or let family starve to death I guess I would hold my nose and do it whilst trying to find another job, but in this country there is usually - though not always an alternative, even if its food banks and handouts.

Otherwise where do you draw the line - is crime an acceptable way to feed your family - maybe a bit of shoplifting you can argue it possibly is - but what about the crimes which directly affect others robbery selling drugs etc - not saying they are in the same league as working for the Sun - of course they aren't but somewhere there is a line. I think the country would be better without the Sun in it and not because its right wing but for the way it operates.
Until recently I had no real problem with the Daily Telegraph. I even used to read it occasionally - its always been right wing but in recent times it has become much less news and much more propaganda driven.

Not a guardian reader. Or any other newspaper for that matter. I prefer to get the news via tv. Radio. Internet etc. ( we have the mirror on line for the missus. ) Bought the mirror after leaving home. ( was the paper of choice wi mi dad.) Great reporting . Paul Foot my favourite journalist. But just can’t be arsed unless I’m at a loose end. But I’m not sure what the fuss is about re the Guardian article. I don’t see it as inappropriate or anything. It is just telling us what we already know. Unless I’ve missed summat. What do folk find inappropriate or offensive Statements. I may then change my view.

the OP is a rabid right winger. I believe he took offence at a left leaning paper writing an opinion piece, which was quite clearly labeled an opinion piece that he mistook for a “headline”. which again quite clearly it wasn’t.

What a '****' you are, "Rabid right winger" my ar*se!! Just commenting that the Guardian used to report news and has descended into opinion pieces this being an unnecessary one which was treated as a headline on the BBC what the papers say. Anyway you are now on ignore so don't bother commenting! ******!!

If you are defending the Sun you are defending the indefensible.

It's been a blessed sunny day & I'll meet you at the cemetery gates.

You have You Mads Andersen & Jean Yves-Mvoto on your side.

McCarthy & Evans are on mine.

PS, my reply was a joke, because I made a point about collective cabinet responsibility & how it has been ridden roughshod over since 1979 by all parties.

Up to that point all day to day decisions were made in cabinet by over 20 elected people. The point of all this is, if Boris is seriously incapacitated there is NO ******* PLAN. Do you get that?

Without the remark you were offended by. His comment basically agreed with me. What did you see as propaganda and doom mongering. Cos I can’t for the life of me see why it seemed inappropriate. It was saying what I believe I’ve seen commented on by people on tv and the radio. I don’t think the article is point scoring no more than Kier Starmers opening speech. If people look hard enough they criticise and opine . when in actual fact nothing could be further from the truth.

How the fk did you come up with that, I said I would do any job within reason to feed my family. If that’s What you class as having no principles , that’s your problem

Sorry Tekkytyke but you’re out on a limb here.

it was an opinion piece and wasn’t even wildly dramatic, as I posted earlier, the Indy ran a similar piece.

and again - as I posted earlier, if you can get angry about an opinion piece in a lefty newspaper, but you’re ignoring the govt propaganda machine spewing out ‘Boris is a fighter’ then you really aren’t looking at the media objectively.

because one of those stories in an opinion of what many of us see as a problem with modern UK govt, the other one is a dangerous outlook that can easily turn into victim blaming.

Step back, take a breath and see where the real horror in the media lies. ;)

Il reply and I hope someone quotes it so you read it. I believe you said I was on ignore 4 weeks ago but that must have been a lie I guess. I’m actually honored as I’d say that ignoring those who disagree with you is pretty small minded.

if the truth annoys you so much though maybe have a look at the root cause. Thanks for the insults, nothing there to dissuade me that you are odious and intolerant.

Fair enough. TBF I don't read any of the mainstream media. I only saw this as the BBC saw fit to lead with the Guardian(as they always do when they put their 'What the papers say' stuff on their website). I am not saying it was unique and admit I did not see the 'i' piece. I was not ranting at the politics but the general negativity in the media with the constant drip, drip, drip of anti Govt rhetoric at a time when we are screaming out for some uplifting news (which I know does not sell newspapers). I ignored the 'Boris is a fighter' and other blatantly pro Con nonsense(equally crap article IMO) as it did not illustrate the point I was making. Being stubborn and single minded does not make you immune or resistent to the ravages of a Covid virus. I have of late lost patience with a few on here after enduring months of insults aimed at me (starting with Brexit) from people who resort to insulting anyone who dares to differ from their blinkered view that every single thing the Tories /BJ do is bad and anyone who does not criticise them is a "rabid Right winger". I admit to having strong opinons and enjoy 'robust' debates but try to avoid posting comments that I would not be prepared to say face to face. Unfortunately, that unwritten rule does not seem to apply to a few on here.
