So that’s why I can’t bake my bread! I’ve baked bread every weekend for years and I finally ran out of bread flour last Sunday. Hoping I can get some before this weekend or my 8 year old sourdough will die
Was in the snakelike queue at Tesco a couple of weeks ago and got listening to a conversation between 2 fellow queuers. The woman ,in her 60's was shopping for elderly neighbours and was saying how hard it was explaining to a woman in her 80's who loved baking, how there was no flour on the shelves let alone the self raising flour the lady wanted. The man she was talking to, in his 40's, then proceeded to say to her that he and his wife had picked some flour up every time they had been in the shop over the last 2/3 weeks and now had 6 bags of various types of flour in the cupboard and how bad it was that there was none on the shelves. The woman then asked him what type of things they liked to bake , to which he answered " We don't do any baking...don't like it but we got it just in case. We're going to have to do some just to get rid of it !" No offer of donating it to the old lady at some point and no hint of irony registering. Yes, these people walk amongst us
