RIP John. One of a small number of players in our history to win a promotion and for an outfield player to play every game in any season takes some doing, but in a promotion season what a record.

The best left footed right back we've had. John played all the 1978/79 promotion winning season at right back, with Phil Chambers doing the same at left back.
R.I.P. John. Condolences to your family.

One of my favourite players. Good footballer. It's a young age for a sportsman. God Bless.

Rest in peace: grew up watching the reds in this era and a good, solid and reliable player he was.
    Great memories from back then...
Thank's for being a part of it.

I think all of us who experienced the early to mid seventies and the glorious renaissance starting with Iley and then Clarke will remember that promotion season as one of the finest times of our lives.
Thanks for your part John. Wonderful memories.

I only knew him as right back and was too young to realise there was anything unusual about him playing on the right but tending to kick the ball with his left. He was the only right back I knew, so it was normal.

Sad to hear of any Red passing away, but especially one who played a big part in one of our special seasons.

John and the rest of that 4th division team were legends. He also contributed to the 3rd div team. I've got fond memories of him, Graham Pugh and Norman Hunter giving Terry Curran a torrid time at Swillsbrough when we gave them a masterclass in the dark arts and did them 2-0. Thanks for the memories John. Condolences to your family. Keep biting Norman.
