Deeply saddened to hear the news. Played for us and managed us through my favourite era. The Clarke/Hunter seasons were something truly special. RIP Norman. Once a Red, always a Red.
So sad to read this. Hunter’s team and the way they played were simply brilliant, and started my live for BFC. RIP Norman.
Unfortunately it looked very bad last night when his condition was updated on the Six o'clock News. Very sad. Wished I could have seen his Barnsley team play, but it was just before my time. Thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this sad time. RIP Norman. Norman Hunter: Leeds United legend dies after contracting coronavirus https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52246007
Absolutely gutted. Remember when Clarke left we had an away game which I think was a midweek game at Brentford and before he was announced fans walking back to buses were singing Norman Hunter’s red and white army. Managed the most exciting team it has ever been my pleasure to watch. Thank you Norman. Norman Hunters red and white army.
Old Bite Yer Legs was manager when I started seeing Barnsley regularly, I'd been a few times before then but I started going every week when I was 11 ~1981. RIP.
A true gent, fantastic player and the 2nd best Barnsley manager in my lifetime. The football under Norman was exhilarating and that team would have walked the Championship. Saw him as an after dinner speaker and he had some great stories. Always had time for people and a great loss to football. RIP Norman.
Norman Hunters red and white army , RIP Norman gave us a team we where all proud to be associated with ,once a red ALWAYS a RED
RIP Norman, a true Oakwell legend. Another piece of my childhood gone. He oversaw the best team to grace our pitch in the 45 years I have been going. I just found his autograph in the loft, on the front of the match programme for the Middlesboro cup tie in 1981, brought a tear to my eye.
Such sad sad news. Another Reds legend gone. To say I'm gutted would be a massive understatement. Just like to send my condolences to his family and to all Reds fans who saw his team back in the day.
I used to help out at the VIP ticket turnstile when Clarke was here first time. When he left and Ray my mates dad, the commercial manager went with him, i thought that was it. But Norman kept us on. He was an absolute diamond of a man. And gave me the best ever Barnsley team I’ve seen, and at Anfield the best ever night. RIP gaffer.
Rip Norman, was a pleasure to watch you in a reds shirt and manage us,you n sniffer put smiles on many a reds faces back then, great times, god bless you.
Contributed to some great BFC memories. The team under Hunter in my opinion was better than the 96/97 squad. Best wishes to him wherever he is.
Very very sad news - manager of the best Barnsley side I have had the pleasure of watching - leaves many happy memories but its a great loss RIP Norman and thanks for the joy you brought to many
Just seen the headline pop up. Oh my days, what terrible news. Totally gutted. He managed the best Barnsley side I have ever seen and was a total childhood hero of mine. What a terrible day. RIP Norman.
