I still think it was a friendly game, I remember being stood with a few Lincoln supporters talking about Norman's move to Oakwell and we lost that game.

What a great photo. I can only echo what everyone else has said. My journey began under Clarke but my education began under Hunter. RIP Norman. Absolutely gutted.

Never forget the comment from a bloke nearby.
"Whos the fat ******* in the middle we have signed"
I replied that fat ******* looks a reight footballer.
    Welcome to Oakwell Ronnie.
One of the, if not the best signing i can ever remember.

Enjoyed watching Hunter (and Clarke) at Leeds and was delighted when they were both at Oakwell. Hunter's team was a delight to watch and we certainly had some cracking games to watch back then - would agree with others that it was the best Barnsley team I had the pleasure of watching.
    Thanks for the memories Norman.

Yes You're right - I got the wrong Kevin. Another great thing about that match was that bobby Cumming, Grimsby's winger got sent off. This man was a thorn in our side in a number of matches, many of which he deserved to be sent off in for his horrific tackles. In fact another memory of Norman involves a match at Grimsby where Cumming scythed him down by the touchline. Norman instantly got up and hit him with a left hook that Tyson Fury would have been proud off. He didn't wait for the referee to do the inevitable and just walked off. We lost 3-0.

I'm sure others have mentioned this, but I couldn't see 'owt without trawling all the threads......it would have been Leeds v Barnsley today under normal circumstances. What an occasion that would've been. Hopefully a big love-in for Norman, before getting on with kicking lumps out of each other, which would obviously be a fitting tribute.. RIP fella.

I remember Norman getting sent off for crashing Cumming at Grimsby, but the spat went back to a previous game at the end of the season in which we got promoted out of the fourth division. Cumming fouled Allan Clarke so badly that it all but ended Clarke's playing career. If you look at the stats, you will see that he hardly played again. It was somehow written in the stars that Cumming had his come-uppance on its way and Norman was the man to do it. It was hardly a surprise in what happened. It maybe was a surprise that Cumming went on to play many more games for Grimsby.

Watched our win at Milmoor from 1981. Really enjoyed it. We looked to be a really tight knit unit. The crowd that day was
unbelievable re- well over 18,000. Rare glimpse of Ronnie Moore without his hat.!
