We had an evening with a friend who has been around the world and visited just about everything you could wish to see. We asked what her favourite place was and she said California because it was so different. I thought it was all about beaches and surfing?

Have you been to the north of Florida off the tourist trail? We went to the panhandle coast a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. So beautiful, and very chilled out. Apalachicola and Wakkula Springs near Talahassee must be two of the most awesome places I've ever visited.

But not cheap! We looked at the Keys, but as we were on a month road trip, the hotel prices there would have swallowed up far too big a chunk of our budget. Looks beautiful though.

Perhaps, though I'm pretty sure his Secretary of State had got that covered.

Obama on the other hand was busy working on becoming one of the most pointless leaders they've ever had. Still, he was black, so yaaaay, or something.

Yep, so pointless that he introduced medical care reforms which benefited the poor who could not afford medical insurance
Obamacare was promulgated to provide medical insurance coverage to many uninsured Americans. It included those previously not eligible for coverage, especially persons with pre-existing conditions. It also mandated that insurance companies include 10 essential benefits.

The ACA’s primary goal was to mitigate the rising cost of health care. It allowed people to afford reasonable preventive care rather than wait for expensive emergency services to befall them. It also sought to help low-income earners by expanding Medicaid eligibility.

Although Congress made major changes to Obamacare, the ACA still remains strongly in place.

But President Trump is seeking to totally repeal it. Some even think he is simply eroding it. Until now, Trump has not presented a viable healthcare replacement plan fulfilling his campaign promise of providing “insurance for everybody.”

Not sure what your mention of the colour of Obama's skin has to do with anything

You do know what you've put is racist don't you? What on earth has the tone of someone's skin got to do with anything? I can't believe in the 21st century that people can still come out with crap like this.

Ah yes, the deeply divisive and unpopular ‘Obamacare’, which has been living on borrowed time ever since its introduction. It’ll go sooner or later, in fact it would have been repealed already had a bitter John McCain not torpedoed the GOPs attempt to do so in 2017, in an infamous act of political spite and attention seeking. I think that's fair comment re the viability of any alternative plan, and no doubt whatever replaces ACA will be far from perfect, but something has to change as the current situation feels unsustainable.

Anyway everyone always cites Obamacare. Apart from the pretty questionable merits of that particular Act, what else would you say Saint Barry achieved of any major significance during his eight years?

As for the mention of his colour, I was of course making the point (albeit facetiously) that despite his tenure being a waste of 8 years, he was still lauded purely because he was the first black Prez. As he was both black and a democrat, he pretty much received a free pass from most of the national news media (both in the States and here), and I’d imagine there’s little to no chance of them ever properly or honestly critiquing his achievements (or lack thereof). No doubt that would be racist………

I see you (and the nitwit that liked your post) failed to understand the point I was making. I can’t believe that in the 21st century, people with such poor comprehension skills can still find their way onto the internet and discussion forums.

I'll keep this brief as you're not worth the effort and i'm not really directing this at you but anyone else who may give credence to your bilge.
If you want to see what Obama achieved just take a look at everything Trump has repealed and rolled back during his time in office.

You're update doesn't make your post any less prejudiced I'm afraid. The fact that you think he got an easy ride because of his skin colour says it all.

You still haven't replied to my post and given a single credible reason for Trump being a good or even ok or passable president. I'd love to hear one. Hell, I'd love a single reason why he's not the worst president in history.

In his 8 years, he lead the country through an outbreak of Swine Flu, which killed 17000 Americans (compared to COVID and 30000+) and brought about 8 years of continued recovery from the global financial crisis of the W Bush years. There is a pattern that when the Republicans are in charge, it usually ends with the economy in a mess. When the Democrats are in charge, they fix it.

I don't want to get involved in the political debate around this,I accept in administering "Obama Care",in the US there are problems, which we in Europe find hard to understand. What I would say is that there have been many US politicians in my lifetime who have tried to find a way to cover every citizen with some form of health provision. Hilary Clinton developed a scheme when her husband was President but it got lost in all the impeachment process.
What I would say is that as a human being,I find it difficult to comprehend any country, where some of it's citizens can't access health and social care, because of income or status. This doesn't just apply to the US but other developed countries such as India and many Arabic and African countries. So any scheme however imperfect ,is a good start which may lead to a more sustainable solution for everyone.
