"I’ve worked with Singapore in 2003 and 2009 and basically they copied the UK pandemic preparedness plan. But the difference is they actually implemented it.”
    Ouch!

It’s a national scandal and they should be held to account for this. Years of Tory austerity and complete disregard for the NHS will kill thousands and plunge the nation in to lockdown for months.
Boris is some kind of hero right now for beating the virus but when an inevitable enquiry is launched he is surely toast.

Can't seh am shocked, if you saw that Cummings video on brexit he did say that the Tories didn't care about the less well off or the NHS.

Let's see how those on here that tend to lean to the right explain how their "Messiah" explains this one away!

Truly shocking report, good old Boris, darling of the right, and fully committed to the people of the UK

“And what you learn about Boris was he didn’t chair any meetings. He liked his country breaks. He didn’t work weekends. It was like working for an old-fashioned chief executive in a local authority 20 years ago. There was a real sense that he didn’t do urgent crisis planning. It was exactly like people feared he would be.”

15,000 dead you clowns, and many more to come.....

No doubt the Daily Heil and that ilk will put their spin on this disaster and seek to blame everybody else but the government

Would it be fair to say the media also failed the public as well? While I'm sure one or two articles can be found warning us how bad things would get. The overwhelming majority of reporting in Jan and Feb failed to warn us of any of this.
Even the WHO seemed slow to respond to the opinions of doctors. All the way back to China lying about the severity of the virus.
Seems like a lot of blame to go around.

Haha.....that repugnant slug Gove has started his next leadership pitch. Throwing Johnson under the nearest bus with this less-than-comprehensive denial.....

It’s the governments responsibility to keep people safe, not the media.

The media should however be on hand to hold the government to account or offer a check or balance to what’s going off, but as we know our media are now so partisan that’s never going to happen.

And so what begins? I'm not trying absolve the useless Tory scum of blame here. Just pointing out how widespread the apathy was on this right upto the end Feb.
Do you think the Media did a good job reporting it in Jan and Feb if all this was happening?
Did the WHO do a good job in those months?
Did China hinder things early on like that very article suggests?
Clearly a better government response was possible, examples are easy to find around the world of that.
One of the reasons our government isn't taken to task and held to account is the media.
