Just drove to my Dads and back this morning and the sheer number of cyclists was amazing. Lots of them fully kitted out of the proper lycra gear. More astonishing is how many of these groups of men riding 4 and 5 abreast must all live in the same household. Who knew.
I think cyclists, especially those who think they are Bradley Wiggins, are exempt from the current rules that most of us are observing.
I think cyclists think that they are exempt from most of the rules that apply to the rest of us, not just lockdown. Usual gaggle of wannabes on their push bikes through our village this morning. Heaven forbid anyone else expecting to use the road, and as for social distancing the pretend peloton doesn't allow for it.
Ha ha watch out, I criticised the cyclists and they are very temperamental and defensive... but agree there are far too many wanna be Bradley Wiggins flouting the lockdown and riding irresponsibly
There are loads of people knocking about on the TPT at Elsecar today....bikes, joggers doggers (Car Share joke ), people actually in full hiking gear ! Busiest I've seen it since the lockdown.
Maybe more people using them for commuting ? Mines sat in the garage and I'm resisting the call, but I will be using it this week for work instead of the car as the weather looks fine all week.
Are you sure? 4 or 5 abreast would take up the WHOLE width of an ordinary road, 2 or 3 abreast would take up a whole standard lane (it's almost impossible to ride closer than 3 feet apart because you'd be forever almost colliding). In my experience serious cyclists (mamils or Wiggins lookalikes) only ride 2 abreast unless its some sort of organised event. I think this thoughtless cyclist bashing is unacceptable.
i've been in a triathlon club for about 5 years, been on around 300 group rides and 1000s of miles. i've probably seen this half a dozen times, at most. where do you live, mont ventoux?
Ok I may have overstated it. They were in a close more peloton formation. Saw two groups of 5+. And yes they seem to be more and more talking over the road during this lockdown. Seeing them every day now, I think the combination of the weather and duration of the lockdown is leading to people taking the hours exercise a bit far. Maybe a bit of less cars on the road so good time to go out too.
Did you bear witness to a slightly above middle aged fat bloke going slow enough he was lucky not to fall off sideways through lack of momentum with his best lounging shorts covered in paint on? Sorry, I tried to keep left
I wear cycling shorts (the ones that feel like you've sh*t yourself) but in consideration for other people who may have the misfortune of seeing me from behind, I wear ordinary shorts over the top.... Unless it's blistering hot weather when my comfort trumps their sensibilities.
Some (but not all) cyclists are tw*ts, the same way some (but not all) motorists are tw*ts and some (but not all) posters on here are tw*ts. I went out myself today (alone) and the biggest group I saw was 2 adults and a child.
