For some reason, Nathan Doyle just popped into my head. Made me think of other players that were pretty okay at Oakwell, but never got appreciated or get remembered. Marley Watkins, Kelvin Etuhu, Danny Haynes...
It was the curse of the loan player he was really good when he was playing for a contract but as soon as we signed him he went down hill pretty quick. Remember he scored an absolute cracker against Coventry I think.......
Steve Lowndes,Mark Robinson, Ray Mchale,Ian Evans,Pat Howard,Eddie Loyden,Les Lea. To name but a few.
Gwyn Thomas never really got the appreciation he deserved. Started out pretty average but turned into a great player for us.
Top quality in a number of positions too. Played LB, CH, MF and even had a short spell at CF too. Did well everywhere he played.
Him with the beard and the outstretched arms? I think it’s Jesus Christ. Had him on loan from FC Nazareth in the 88/89 season.
Athersley Red goes to Doctor an sez i'm gerrin a bit forgetful Doctor sez r longs thar had this problem, Athersley Red sez wot problem
Doyle was OK, Haynes was good for a while until Hill (I think?) fell out with him. I always think that O'Grady doesn't get enough credit - scored 15 in a relegation team in the Championship before being sold for decent money. Jacob Burns would be my other shout. Always rated him.
Unsung hero in that team, he played so well at Anfield that in the replay, Souness clattered him before the ball left the centre circle at the kickoff.
