gets my vote https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52398548 but I wonder how it would affect clubs getting relegated from the championship. Would any players still in contract have to take a pay cut ?
agreed. However I cannot see the Premier and championship doing it..... players would just bugger off abroad.
Definitely should be a salary cap like in America but it will never ever happen here with the power the premier league and the top clubs have. Shame.
I can see the argument for the Premier League not having a salary cap, but the EFL should have one for each of the 3 divisions.
It's a lot easier in America as no other countries play American sports to anything like the same level. If we had a salary cap in English lower leagues then players would move abroad. This would reduce the value of the product and cost the clubs. Maybe it could work in league one and two. But no higher. That would probably only serve to widen the increasing gap between championship and league one that we ourselves seem to be falling into.
Yes and no on that one. As with FFP rules, it is only as good as the enforcement and the penalties for misuse. An example I always use is in baseball with the New York Yankees. Nearly every year they flout the salary cap. They have won the World Series title many times, so they don't really care. Each year they are fined by the MLB, but the fine is a pittance compared to the money in the game. There's also no promotion / relegation, so that doesn't worry them either.
