First series was the best work he's ever done and I thought Derek would take some beating. It's a shame season 2 doesn't have as many episodes.
I loved both Derek and After Life, as I am a fan of Ricky Gervais. Both series were extremely funny, but also extremely sad at times. He handles pathos well. However, as I live alone and I have now been locked in for 38 days, with only 3 excursions to replenish food supplies, I will save Season 2 for happy days, which are hopefully just around the corner,
only criticism I have of Gervais is the funny lines he gives other actors in the shows he writes , you can here him saying those lines,in the manner they are delivered, hope I am explaining myself, anyone else noticed this
When you say 'funny' do you mean haha funny, or 'funny'? If you mean he gives humourous lines to other actors and you can hear his voice in them, isnt that just the sign of a good comedy writer playing to his strengths?
Suppose so just the characters have different personalities, but when delivering jokes all of them deliver them with Ricky’s mannerisms and ways, still enjoy his shows, just something that I noticed
That's fair enough. I think it's commendable that he gives the lines out to other actors though. Some actors who write would want to keep all the good lines for themselves. A bit like his own spoof comedy in Extras - 'is he avin' a laugh?' - although that is intentionally unfunny. Looking forward to series 2 tomorrow, didn't know if was back so soon
I'll give it a go, I think he's been on a gradual decline since The Office, but to be honest there was only one way to go after that.
