    I don’t live in Tarn so don’t drink there much. I saw Gerry Taggart on under the cosh. I’m sure he’d make a drinkers XI

    The night before we played in the FA Cup Semi final against Cardiff City, my mates
    and myself were in the Hilton Hotel ( Wembley). We joined in the company of John
    Dennis, Brendan O'Connell and Gerry Taggart.

    I can tell you Gerry could " put it away". He was doing one armed press ups in the
    bar and was really great company. I don't know how many pints he had that night,
    but he was as steady as a rock and looked unaffected when I saw him the next morning.
    My head was banging like a toilet door in a gale.!

    I’d just started going out boozing then & used to love bumping into the Barnsley squad. They were out boozing loads. Remember seeing a few of them on different occasions on Wellington Street at 2, 3am on Saturday night / Sunday morning & they’d have a game on the Tuesday.

    They were probably the last group that could get away with that. With camera phones & social media now they’d be screwed.

    Worked in Whispers in the early 90s and Taggart was in there every Saturday night without fail at 2am with at least one other regular player, but can't remember who his drinking companions were.

    I've had pint with him in Ilkley, after I've bumped into him walking our dogs. Has always been really friendly & happy to chat about his Barnsley days.
