Incredibly nervous through the day .... night was just a blur! Left pub about 3 in the morning- lock in at the Pheasant Monk Bretton! Incredible day/night for all us that were lucky enough to have been there!
Thing is, Xmas 96, Armand Van helden everywhere in the clubs etc, had a couple of conversations along same lines: we'll get dicked week in week out but one day we'll have a result. No-one will explain it but we'll have it. Thing is when we got there we beat Liverpool, spurs and man utd ....not bad
What a day! Can still feel the emotion, all those conversations in the pub that season Can we do it, and then we actually did. Paul Wilkinson will always be MotM for me , I was so nervous before he scored! I think I'll watch the season video today, go back in time .
What a memory. The scenes in Town after the game were unforgettable. On the M1 on the way back to Wakefield there were cars all sounding their horns and passing Bradford fans were giving us a wave and the thumbs up, because our scarves were hanging out of the back windows. Talking over the phone on the Monday with a lad who worked at the Smithies Council Depot. He was telling me, that the Council had never cleared so much glass from broken beer glasses and bottles up in Town ever before. What a day and from what little I remembered what a night. Certainly had a few that night before turning in.
I'll never forget it, the lasting memory for me was seeing my Dad break down into tears thinking about his Dad who we had lost just the year before. I was a month short of my 18th Birthday, so my Dad got the drinks in all night. At the time when he was going on about remember this and how important it was we were together to see it, I just thought he was being daft. Now I'm a lot older and have kids of my own I get it.
