Just Sunday’s and Christmas Day I think. Always 11:00pm in Barnsley area. Sheffield used to be 10:30 pm but I believe they opened earlier in the evening
In my early drinking days the licensed hours were 11am to 3pm and 7pm to 10-30 pm Monday to Saturday 12 noon to 2pm then I think it was 7-30 to 10 pm Sundays. We kicked off at 3-15 on Saturdays to allow travel time and 7pm evenings.
I think everyone who saw us in those lean times. Can put it into perspective as to what might have been compared to what we achieved. As a bairn (born 56) I loved little owd Barnsley then because they were my hometown club. And football for the town gave you a sense of belonging. Irrespective of what league we were in. Owners in it for the love the club. ( I understand the dissolusionment with the present owners. But THIS is still OUR club. and we will still be here if and when they've gone. Because I defend them on their policies which we are aware of does not mean to say I like em all. ) But back on track. A lot of we'll say, the younger elements. (Born after the early 70s.) Can't really appreciate where we come from. Yes. We have spent more years in the second tier than other clubs. But and it's a big but. Money didn't dictate what league you were in. It was football and not a business for most of those years. Maximum wages were in place. The gate money and programmes were the main source of revenue ( No telly money to speak of) So think on you young uns. Football Didn't begin in the 1980's. Was in the 1880's when the football league was formed. ( 1888 to be precise )
loved those times, getting green un outside, no social media ,listening to gossip about players blokes were talking about on terrace as a kid, then going to school and saying you know why Banksy is really called banger, I do,and Martin New as come back from close season 5 stone over weight I heard it at a friendly honest its true
“I used to be with ‘it’ But then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!”
I worked with a Gas fan. He has a copy of the league table on his wall when for a brief period Bristol City were bottom of division 4. Seeing rivals struggle is almost as good as our team doing well but not quite.
