if they null and void it Liverpool haven’t qualified for the champions league..... well they have because we’d then need to take last years qualifiers as this years. Will all the extra cash they get for the champions league I can see a right bun fight happening. Complicated

 

The fairest thing is to do something with the points already earned. The statistics from any post-virus games are going to be too flawed for various reasons. They simply aren't going to be contested under the same conditions as before. I certainly don't think any team should suffer a damaging relegation as a result of all this though - and I'm not just saying that because we are affected by it.

 

Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League as it is not just the winner. They can only come 2nd, which still qualifies - but might be a different round.

Just play on later. Don't be too concerned about timescales. If we closed the season now who's to say we can start another season August/ September. What if a second wave occurs in December? Do we start again? Scrap transfer windows. Aim towards finishing a season up to the World Cup December 2022. Be more concerned about health, viability of the 71/72 efl clubs and getting fans in stadiums.
Really not too bothered about staying in Champs for false reasons. With these owners it would be guaranteed to be another sh*t show.

That’s assuming Wigan carry on their run and theirs nothing in the displays of the winning run the have just had to suggest they would .

The stochastic modelling is based on historical performance and an element of variation. They also use these models to model the economy. I bet not one of their 10,000 scenarios predicted an economy falling off a cliff due to a global pandemic.

Models have massive flaws hence no model has been shown to create wealth by predicting sporting outcomes due to the inherent uncertainty involved in sporting events.

A long winded response to saying it’s all BS

 

This is the main thing that gets me about us staying in the Championship for ‘false reason’ or other descriptions of that Ilk. We all want our club running in a sustainable way as possible, but unfortunately certain other clubs flout/ cheat/ circumvent FFP rules. They either, have success on the field by being promoted, finish comfortably in the table or survive a relegation battle, yet because we have toiled and struggled to match these teams we are deemed deserving of going down if the season were to end as things stand. A proposition (argument even) could be forwarded that in these exceptional times/circumstances because we have been ‘good’ and played the season in the correct spirit, sportsmanship and general respect to the EFL and fellow clubs, we could be deemed as deserving to stay up.

 

Yeah granted failing FFP would be a valid reason for us staying up and I have commented on that in previous posts. However I would still prefer us to stay up for positive reasons on the field. It just the way I feel.

 

I think we should go down. People get very sentimental where football is concerned. They shouldn't. We're there to make up the shortfall financially.

As long as enough of us renew for whenever play resumes alot will have been starved for that long they won't mind if it's in League 1. Our rightful place as things stand.

Of course I'd sooner it be null and void but it isn't going to happen. The powers that be would probably scrap relegation and relegate us anyway because our kitman uses surf instead of persil.

 

If the season is nullified then they are still reigning champions of Europe, so should qualify via that?

 

I remember this time last year and made up that we won promotion. Näively thought it would give us a chance of keeping the promotion team and couldn't wait to give the Championship a crack. The owners had different thoughts. Staying in the Championship this time would be important for Lee et al. in lining their pockets.For me good football and Oakwell more important than fitting into their financial plan.

 

I think Arsenal will get in for using a good lube that counterracts with the coefficient of friction.

They're all we have. 20 per cent Cryne could ride to the rescue with a feather up his arse on a fec king donkey but I doubt it somehow.

 

I'd be mightily surprised if next season wasn't affected and they'd be fools not to plan for that too. Where that leaves some already financially striken clubs......

FWIW I was in a team meeting on Friday and our NHS Trust had told my School of Healthcare that they expect another wave in Autumn. No idea how bad it will be, but I wouldn't be betting much money on a completed 20/21 season.
