I do love the West stand. Better than any of these soulless domes popping up everywhere. If they dare rip it down I'll chain myself to my seat. Bogs are nice as well
Agree, just put cantilever supports in, take the pillars out and leave it as it is.....lots of away fans comment on how our club feels like football should.
I read that Man Utd are putting in a safe-standing area for 1500 fans. We should do it in the West Stand.
I often wonder what it would be like if they did it up properly as a preservation type project , so people can still use it as a ‘past time’ experience.Safe standing would be great on there.
It costs an absolute fortune. Just to buy the actual seats cats £80 a time without even thinking about the installation costs and then the significant extra ongoing costs of having them in place. If we were to rebuild the stand it could be worth it but as a one off addition to an existing stand it's really cost prohibitive
Genuine question but if they were to say that they could take the stand down brick by brick and rebuild it elsewhere as a monument/museum. Which part of the stand would you want rebuilt and preserved?
It's a great photo. But as the sky takes up 60% of it and the pitch another 30%, I'm not sure the West Stand is playing a staring role. It's the bit in shadow that separates the two aesthetically pleasing bits that are so perfectly lit.
I don't think you have to actually own a building/structure to apply for a preservation order to be put on it.
I may be in the minority I get why people want to keep it, I get why people want it to remain as part of historical significance. But, alongside the rest of the ground, it looks ***** ridiculous, Modern up to date ground and then we still have that Personally, I think it makes the rest of the ground *****, and us as a club, still small fry My opinion, and I appreciate why people want to keep it. But its not for me, Replace the thing See ya
I must admit my original post was based on the assumption that the new seats would be full every home game: 1500 fans filling them that have not moved from other parts of the stadium but are in effect 'new' supporters who are attracted to the idea of generating an atmosphere in a way you do not get at games in England. With that, it eventually pays for itself even if it costs millions. That is probably not a fair or reasonable assumption, really. Maybe my 'build it and they will come' attitude explains why I am not in charge of the budget down there. But still, it would be nice. And to all the defenders of the West Stand, fine. Put it in my corner of the Ponty.
