    these last few days. I think it is based at Scampton but not certain.
    I don't know how many of these old things are still flying.

    I think it was 1969. I was just a kid. I took a couple of buses to RAF Finningley to the annual airshow.

    Highlights of the day were the Vulcan scramble, with three of the majestic beasts taking off in quick succession, and a three flybys by Concorde, before it went into service.

    It was common for them at one time to being seen in the skies around here whilst they were practicing low flying in the Vale of York.....
    For those not aware... From the top of York Minster on a clear day you can see Locke Park believe it or not..

    That is correct. The plane crashed onto the A27. The pilot survived and was tried for manslaughter or suchlike. I believe he was acquitted.

    God knows how he got away with it. Seems his defence team played the system and won. If you 'cant remember' what happened you can't incriminate yourself.

    On leaving college I worked for what was then British Aircraft Corporation at Filton, Bristol. Despite them being built on site, I never saw a Concorde until my last day when a colleague took me to the hanger where they were being assembled.

    There is a very good aviation museum at Filton nowadays which exhibits the last Concorde to fly.

    For a couple of years around that time we were very lucky, my Dad's mate was the chief Flying Instructor at Doncaster Gliding Club and opened the display with a flight...he invited us along as his guests which got us behind the scenes, walking around with the aircrew and technical staff was just incredible, all for free too.

    Definitely a Canberra...Rory Underwood the England RU wing flew them if I remember rightly...they were in service for a long time....must have been a very good aeroplane too, I believe the Americans bought them for the US Air force, license built by Martin.
