Going back to the 60s there was a guy called Sam who used to lead the chanting from the Ponty End. Who remembers him? He was old enough to have grown out of such stuff, but as a teenager I thought he was great.
Mostly sang by the Brewery Stand/paddock corner crowd nearest to the away end. Oh and, It’s a long way to the station, it’s a long way to go, to the tune of Tipperary. Disclaimer, just saying what was sang and not glorifying hooliganism
"The Wednesday sing, I don't know why, cos after the match, your going to die !" To the tune of Tom Harke.....a very cheerful tune to incite violence to
There's one thing that stands out for me while stood on the Ponty end in the 1960's was this fella could have called him Sam I never knew his name used to shout out every time the Bobby walked past as one used to walk around the field then was "Whooo's that scuffa with the big black hat" then everyone would shout "Do da, do da, do da is his name" followed by, "On the beat all day on the wife all night, who's that scuffa with the big black hat do da is is name" lead by that fella who they call Sam.
I thought his name was Bill, was there a couple who wore bowler hats as well, or have I imagined that.
