Discussing how latest developments might impact on "our foreign holidays" this year. Had that travel guy Simon Calder on. He reckoned that you could still go abroad, providing (a) you can find an airline, (b) you can find a country to let you in, and (c) you're happy to quarantine for 14 days when you return. He also said that if you didn't fancy the quarantine, you could just go via a non-flying option (I assume ferry or chunnel) and thus avoid having to quarantine on your return.

All of which sounds completely bonkers to me. And what he failed to cover was how much of your holiday you might need to spend in quarantine when you arrive at your chosen destination.

Thankfully us goats don't holiday abroad...

How is someone arriving in the country via a ferry not a health risk, when someone arriving by plane is considered to be?

The cyncic might suggest that because the government has been given lots of stick for allowing unrestricted entry via air they are implementing the policy to stop the criticism. The fact that its 2 months too late and now is pointless isnt important - its from a PR point of view the right thing to do which is all that they care about.
No one has been moaning about ferries yet so they didnt bother with that one

On a more serious note its very difficult to do ferries as you cant quarantine truck drivers for 14 days if you actually want food to make it to the shops

and its impossible to do anything about the Irish Republic without implementing a hard border

He also said that you're ok if you're coming in from Ireland or France (Ireland I knew about, France I didn't), because Boris has had a chat with their PMs. o_O

They’ve changed their mind now, it includes other transport methods. But not if you come from France or Ireland.

Iceland had a contact tracing app about 6 weeks ago (75000+ downloads) and tested a significant proportion of their population. Under 10 have died and at least one was a visitor. Oh, and they have been quarantining arrivals since March 16th.

Indeed there are, It’ll be interesting to see how high the costs will rocket for all aspects of a British holiday, as the Holiday abroad becomes unaffordable and/or unavailable to many
