Have a look at Flavcity on the YouTube. High protein low carb diets. American but clear enough to get the gist.
Good luck in your quest. Personally, I’ve tried to cut out gluten rather than bread, so much reduced intake of flour and processed crap. Works for me, but lunch is often celery, carrots and tomatoes and dinner is often rice, GF pasta (lentil) or potatoes. Yes,still carbs, but better carbs than bread. So far, working for me (btw, gluten is a known cause of inflammatory issues like rheumatism) Oh and cider is a good replacement for beer/lager that’s GF.
I started low carb about three years ago and lost about 2 stone - down to a BMI of 24. I hover a bit around 25 now but certainly not overweight. I didn't have diabetes and didn't want it but a friend of mine completely reversed hers on the advice of a good doctor by doing this, so I thought I would give it a try. It's not the easiest way of eating in the world, and you have to cheat a bit now and then, but generally speaking I feel much better. Quite a few posts about alcohol on here. If you must drink - then spirits have the least calories. There are low calorie beers. It's up to you. I started looking at my own drinking patterns, and decided to do Dry January - and found it quite easy, and had a couple of spells of not drinking of three months. Then I would go on holiday and drink way too much. I can't do moderation I decided - in fact if it's worse than not drinking. Why stop at two beers when you can have two packs? So I decided to make the big decision to quit for good - and haven't had a drink since last November and don't intend to start again. I said I quit for good, and nothing but good has come of it. I feel fitter, sleep better, maintain my weight better, save a lot of money and feel good. The hardest thing is the social bit - but the occasional alcohol free beer gets me over that. You will quickly find that when you are in the company of drunks they are not as amusing and witty as they think they are. Funny that alcohol is the only dangerous drug that you have to justify NOT using. "Yeah, I like a bit of crack cocaine, now and again..." I'm not preaching - if you can take it or leave it, or think that a cheeky little Chardonnay is a good way to get over the lockdown - go for it.
You can look at Tim Noakes web site. He's a Professor that advocates this kind of stuff and has plenty of recipes in the keto/banting line. Personally, I find it a bit extreme. Any meal should have a good balance of carbs, fat and protein. If you cut out all processed sugars, just don't have any sugar in the house, and you go for walks, little jogs or bike rides every day, you'll be fine. It doesn't make sense to go with a diet you can't keep to forever. There are loads of delicious meals that have a good balance of carbs, fat and protein. You needn't feel you're being strict with yourself at all. If you go with anything extreme you won't be still doing it this time next year, guaranteed.
A balanced diet isn't half good and half bad, have you never seen an eatwell plate? Also, I'm neither fat nor sick and it tastes good so that's why.
Seen people do the Keto route. And invariably take it too far or go back to a non diet regime. Appears to have differing results. The low carb route is the only one I feel I can sustain. Without too much difficulty. Low calorie just didn’t work out for me at all. I’m still getting protein and fats in what I’m eating.
