Although Johnson told MPs that workers health would be protected by workplace inspections, we learn today that these inspections won't be taking place and employers will be self policing. Therefore employers can choose between profit and lives.
At what point do lies and half truths become a criminal offence when issued by a prime minister?

Health and Safety is responsibility of Barnsley Council not national Government

They are discussing the role of the HSE and it’s Inspectorate rather than local Inspection regime.

We were told that employers would face stiff penalties if they broke the social distancing rules.

Did you fail to read the bit that says either the HSE or councils? Simple inspections are done at a local level

If there is Union representation at your workplace contact them if you are concerned about your employer, or contact the Council concerned for your workplace location

Did you fail to read the bit that says “will be responsible for enforcing workforce health and safety laws.”

but I suppose that on Barnsley council website doesn’t help with Tory bashing

“The HSE is responsible for businesses such as factories construction sites farms and schools”. Now what part of that statement do you not understand because I’m happy to break it down for you word by word if needed

No need it’s right there. If you need an explanation of the term “such as”, please let me know

We're the enforcing authority for work places such as:

    • offices
    • shops
    • warehouses
    • hairdressers
    • restaurants
    • hotels
    • private residential care homes
    • consumer and leisure services

So we are making some progress you now acknowledge that your initial post was incorrect when you said that councils are solely responsible. They are in some instances but in most major business inspections are run by the HSE. The areas they are speaking about opening up are schools and construction. So who will be responsible for conducting inspections on those. A clue is begins with H and ends in E with an S in the middle.

    try and keep up sunshine

No I wasn’t. I pointed out that Barnsley Council and the HSE are responsible for workplace Health and Safety- what’s wrong with that ?

Don’t worry I’m keeping up. Maybe you need to explain to Barnsley Council then that they have no influence or responsibilities despite them claiming such on their website

This govt have been absolutely diabolical in this pandemic and all people can say when they are being rightfully taken to task is that it’s Tory Bashing ,

He's not saying that they don't for anything, just that they don't for everything which is what your first post of 'Health and Safety is responsibility of Barnsley Council not national Government' implied. Barnsley Council have responsibility for some stuff, HSE has responsibility for some other stuff.

It’s obvious that if the current government paid double wages and locked everything down for 12 months you would moan. Get off your soapbox and realise this is a world crisis and stop whinging. Yes, questions can be asked, but it’s the attitude that everything the government does is wrong makes people go out have parties and ignore the rules. Grow up and please post something positive for once. You might just enjoy being nice

in this Pandemic the Tories deserve every bit of 'bashing' they get! They've completely fkd up - lives have been lost - sadly they haven't a clue what they're doing -
We had a recent thread about comedians on this site - if you want a (disastrous) comedy show tune in to the Gov't briefings on BBC 1 at about 5 p.m.
