Mainly car stuff. I regularly check the car battery with it (or I did before buying a new battery after mine died after 12 years). You can check how much life it has left in it and know if your car isn't starting whether it's the battery or not, even if you have some power for lights. I've also used it for various batteries that have been left in drawers for ages to know whether to chuck them or not. I used it when fixing the washer to know that it likely needed carbon brushes before taking it all apart (it did and was a cheap fix). I've used it to check various fuses. I used it when my car had a bad earth to know that I just needed to cut the wire and resolder it in a new spot when the right break light kept coming on everytime I indicated right. I know I've used it for loads more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. It's how I know how to fix all my own stuff, or at least know what to tell someone else to fix if it's too hard. I've saved thousands of pounds from just checking stuff with that and replacing parts rather than replacing the whole thing or paying expensive call outs fees. How do you know how to fix things without one?

Makes you feel like you're missing out doesn't she. I might get one just because I can and she says they're cool. If Jamdrop can fix her own car then I am more than willing to buy what she says we need for diy

You definitely do. It's £7, what have you got to lose? Buy one now and then thank me later :p

9/10 times I've fixed my car, I couldn't have done it without that.

I like your theory. We've got one at work and I've seen people per things with them but they look too confusing for me so I've never bought one.
Might buy one just to stick in the drawer then you don't have to bring yours when I call you round to rescue me and fix things for me.

Too confusing :D it tells you what bit to turn it to in the booklet (or look it up online). You literally turn the dial, stick the probes on whatever you want to test and it'll tell you the reading. You can also check for continuity by jabbing whatever with the probes and if it buzzes, you're good to go.

Just make sure you know if you need A/C or D/C!

This is a stupid question but can I jab at live mains wires to see if they have power to them without blowing myself up? That sounds fairly useful

Yes but for gods sake watch a video on youtube or something first! Seriously, how do people do anything around their home or car without one?

Don't worry I'm not planning on just going jabbing without finding out how to first.

Haha I would be offended if it wasn't so painfully true
