Grateful for his efforts .It was nailed on. A knighthood for walking round your garden and being swept off on a media frenzy.

He's the latest "it person". Eddie the Eagle, fat Dee off benefits Street, Joey Essex.

The media love a darling. It's being in the right place at the right time.

Well deserved. Captain (Colonel) Tom is the epitome of what honours should be given for.

He didn't court any of this fame or attention, he just wanted to raise some money - the rest of it was out of his control.

At 100 years old it is a pretty remarkable achievement from a remarkable man. The media love him but for the right reasons so it seems a little unfair to compare him to Fat Dee or the Essex bloke.

Haven't a clue who Fat Dee is but imo he's deserving of a knighthood as anyone, and I think as a role model as a person.

Just handing them out to anybody nowadays.

This just completely devalues all of the selfless, dedicated work done by people like Theresa May’s former communications chief Sir Robbie Gibb over many (two) long years of public service.

I think every fundraiser should get a knighthood.

There's hope for me yet. Nothing against Sir Tom. It's the media for me. I'll leave it there.

No but from listening to him talk he's reminded me of the need to take a positive view of a situation, to be polite and respectful and that you're never too old! At his age a knighthood is totally the right thing , he hasnt many years left to fundraise even more.

I agree he's a media darling but for once in the right way.

I wonder if he'll celebrate it by having a KFC, then wanging the left over rubbish over his hedge?

I have nothing against Mr Moore he as tried his best and I would say the only way he could help in this pandemic because of the bad management by this government, there are plenty more people like the doctors, nurses and care workers that are risking their lives every time they go to work that deserves honouring and all they get is a clap and a cheer in parliament when told their wage rise had been frozen by the same two-faced pricks that are now calling them heroes.

I hope we are not wanging gongs left right and centre for just about anybody who potters about at home. He needs to do 75 laps around his garden to celebrate VE before we consider knighting him, the lazy sod.

Thought it was a bit risky having Ian Botham on a video call wishing him well. Sir Thomas might have had an extra surprise.

The guy has raised money in the best way he could probably do. For that he deserves praise. At his age its a great effort. Good for him. For me its not about Tom though its about the system of knighthoods and the way events like this are manipulated by the media. As someone posted previously there are countless numbers of heroes every day in this country and particularly at this time and they receive very little recognition. Why is that?
