No as this isn't school and I'm not here to write an essay with citations etc just because you ask for it on your usual condescending manner.

    Yours sincerely

Well, I really tried to ask nicely. I really tried to ask in a way that did not give you a excuse to reply with a personal insult. I really tried to ask in a way that would result in a proper debate about the facts of Patrick Cryne's tenure in charge of the club. Yet you still decided that you would reply in the same old way. Perhaps, after all, you have no real facts. Perhaps after all it is all hearsay and conjecture. Perhaps after all you are just trying to rubbish the memory of a good man for no good reason. Ah well, at least I tried.

To be fair, I'd probably piss the bed if I found a snake in it.

Davey was pretty useless in my opinion. Had a load of money to spend (for us!) and wasted a chunk of it. Finished just outside the relegation area but I don't really class it as an achievement given the money he spent.

The league wasn't as divided back then either - lots of clubs that now don't stand a chance were finishing higher up. Remember teams like Plymouth, Donny and of couse Blackpool having decent finishes.

I never felt like Davey had a real plan or knew what he was doing, but he somehow managed to get some great players in that kept us up. Anderson, JCR, Darren Moore etc were great but imagine them under a better manager!

[QUOTE="Patrick 'the saint' used to manipulate the fans and get what he wanted how he wanted.[/QUOTE]
A bit unfair that ST. Whilst I for one was glad he stepped in to save the club. I was also fully aware it was more out of being a fan. Than actually wanting to run it.
Some will not look at any issues that came round during his tenure.
It’s also a similar case in as some will stand up for Stendel even though it seems he was no saint either.( I don’t understand the reason why so many appear to put HIM on as high a pedestal as PC.)
No one and I mean no one that I’m aware of. wanted to take over the club until it was quite clear he’d got into ill health. Even then how many interests were shown other than what we’ve got now.?
Barnsley are not a special case in the goings on at football clubs. Fans will never be happy. Whichever club they support when things appear to go wrong.
Ps Davy was horrible to deal with on occasions I needed to speak to him. Arrogant and aloof.

I think he brought in the the let's be thankful we've got a club mantra as a means to vindicate low spending. Fans swallowed it hook, line and sinker and almost forgot what the club achieved between 1995 and 2000. I think fans didn't start to question his regime until it was too late. As a result it got even further behind the 8 ball.

    Just a quick one.

The interviews done by Ben for the Trust on YouTube are a fascinating watch. However, it should always be noted that they are the opinions of one (or, two in some cases) people. Their opinions. Now, they might well be factually accurate throughout, their opinions. But they might not. I think it's always helpful to remember that. Especially when some named within the interviews can't respond with their opinion.

I take most things I hear in football with a bucket of salt. Lost count of the times many individuals told me differing stories, or were hypocritical down the line etc. For the most part however, I think the guests on Ben's streams appear to have been honest, with their view of their own time at BFC. And I've enjoyed a number of them in particular. Although we interviewed Conor Hourihane a couple of months back, it was felt that such interviews were better done 'not' by the club, so as to open the door to such 'opinions'. If you get my drift.

I'd also really enjoy fact checking much of the nonsense I read on here from select posters, but it wouldn't necessarily be fact from me either.

    Just opinion.

    Have a wonderful sunny day!

I'm inclined to agree. I always thought Simon Davey was half decent as manager. However, after reading what people have said about him I'm beginning to think he was a bit of a knob.

Davey's masterstroke was getting all the foreign players confusing Champions League with "Championship League"

I'm sure that's how the club signed Anderson De Silva. I'd actually heard of him when he signed.

Tbf, 2 people will always recount the same situation 8n different ways, I've just finished reading the Lars Leese biography and it's interesting where he says footballers don't like to ask the manager direct questions and then assume certain things which may or may not be the case.

That said it's refreshing to hear from those not having to "toe the party line" and I have to say there was a gap in my Tuesday routine last night!

Not really sure how this has turned in to a bit of a 'Cryne bashing' thread, but Rick/Andy were only critical of being promised support through 'Box Office Signings' only to not receive it. They never attacked him personally or questioned his ability to run the club, and you'll find a host of former managers out there who will criticise the lack of support from their board. What they said was pretty diplomatic, honest, and in no way scathing - in my opinion.

They did vent about Shepherd and Davey though, which is pretty consistent with anything I've heard over the years. From what I can tell, and I'm going to guess this runs across football rather than being a Barnsley specific issue, is that football clubs are too quick to take for granted the players they have at the club and blow the budget on expensive new signings, only to try and short change those already there. Might not be true, but from the interviews we've seen that's been common from Dennis to Cryne and potentially the current owners down the line (who knows).

The Championship is a different beast now to then. For me, Davey would be way out of his depth and less capable then he was perceived to be when giving us consecutive seasons of Championship football.
