Last season ended in promotion with a manager who was admired by fans and directors alike So we sell arguably three of our best players and replace them with a bunch of young lads. We set off badly , the manager and his back up team leave under a cloud and cloak of secrecy. The board eventually appoint a new headcoach with no championship experience and now after languishing near the bottom find ourselves 7 points from safety as the season is halted due to a world wide pandemic . Now the board (who we never saw at Oakwell ) want the supporters money to keep the club afloat and show loyalty to the club which let's be honest is one of their several 'investments'. Did they show the supporters and club any loyalty during the summer gone.....did they show any ambition to give the club a chance of staying in the championship? I will probably renew my seas on ticket next season and wonder what this board will do next with the playing staff before a ball is kick at Oakwell.
No. They're rubbish. I don't like them at all. But if you buy a season ticket you're not supporting them, you're supporting the club. They'll not put their hands in their pocket, it's up to us. I'm not telling you to, I'm not slagging you off if you don't, I'm in two minds myself as they've really put me off. But this is the situation.
Despite this move being detremental to the Club (if 9,000+ seasonal members opt for refunds, significant strains will be exerted on our cash-flow (approximately -£400,000)), it is morally a necessity. Interesting how a text such as this can be interpreted in a positive and negative way. Positive - You asked for honesty, Morals before money, We will have to subsidise etc Negative - Asking supporters to subsidise club. The text could be read as either, both or a mixture.
True enough what you say but what is the club with these jokers in charge? Yes, we DO have a club but where's the soul of the thing? There isn't one for me. Just my opinion of course
I get that and feel it too. The other side of the argument is they won't be here forever, but Barnsley fans will, if we have a club. It's everyone's personal choice. The only thing I can say that I genuinely believe is that if you buy a season ticket that money will go to the club and not the directors. I think they're a bunch of charlatans, I don't think they're a bunch of thieves. It's up to the individual. Like many I don't like the directors. Like everyone on here I love the club.
I agree with the owners "not getting" the club, but there are enough staff there who do and of course volunteers and fans. And of course the wider community as talked about in daydream believers. I hadn't actually read the q and a's that @YTBFC linked to until yesterday. I sincerely hope lessons have been learned as they say, we shall have to wait and see. But that's all part and parcel of being a Barnsley fan, at least it's never boring!
Have i missed the announcement by the directors that they will be leading from the front. showing that we are all in the together and they are also taking a pay cut or no pay at all ? they have asked the fans to fork out for a new season ticket even though fans may not be allowed to go to those games. exchange there remaining game tickets for coupons for games asked the coach and payers to take a 25 % pay cut or deferral. and announced for themselves...........nothing.
What pay are they taking? As pointed out yesterday currently it is not known they have taken out a penny from the club apart from one being paid a wage for being the CEO. We know have a full time CEO so there is nothing to suggest they have taken anything out.
Directors of private equity business ask customers for charity donations to ensure profitability of their investment. In any other business this would be a joke, but the emotional attachment of fans can be exploited.
I'm often asked for a charitable donation when using card machines and ordering on line, by hundreds of different companies, it's been going on for years.
I’m not renewing, missed a fair few games due to work plus I can’t get to mid week games anyway. I also think these owners need a strong message sending that the natives aren't happy which they’ll take no heed of until they see season ticket sales fall off a cliff.
Any chance you could repost that Q and A link? Would be interested to see how they try and defend last summer!
Barnsley F.C won't fold. Take the refund. There will be someone out there with the money to buy the club and take advantage of these owners willingness to sell when the chips are down. Patrick Cryne only waited as long as he did to see the back of John Dennis. I'd be surprised if there wasn't someone else out there looking to invest. At the end of the day Barnsley F.C aren't a Gateshead, Barrow, Maidstone Utd, Aldershot or Bury. Clubs that attract 11,000 supporters plus a week don't go to the wall.
It’s more common place than you would think. Almost every holiday company has taken the same approach Offering vouchers over refunds, some are still taking bookings for Holidays this year to keep their cash flow going.
Cheers, I remember that actually now I see it again. Not particularly convincing answers - doesn't do much to persuade me that they're not incompetent!
So had you attended most or all games and were able to continue to do likewise, Would you renew or would you not renew and be part of sending a 'Strong message'
Do we know if the flexi ticket can be used for other people? Because I may go for that option if my kids can use it when they come back from uni?
