Isn't it strange in a thread discussing how the threat of accusations of racism stifle debate and action you should wrongly accuse me of targeting muslims. I never mentioned muslims. You’ve proven my point very well. Thank you.

Thank you ST, one of the common sense posters on this board, I didn’t know what he was getting at either which is why I asked if he meant that the girls deserved it. Unfortunately in these cases there was a prejudice amongst those in authority against working class girls from council estates, being the superior type I wondered if Donny was of that mindset.

The first group isn't necessarily racist because foreigners can be white and wanting a control on immigration isn't racist in itself. But I don't know the context they discuss it so you might be right.

The one you used to work with is definitely racist, absolutely no doubt about that. And yes using terms like f****** p*** is completely unacceptable, indefensibly racist and ignorant.

I also think you're right about the industry you work in. In my job I think a racist would be found out very quickly.

It's not case proven is it? It's two separate issues.
The grooming gangs, the way some asian men treat women is utterly appalling. Some adherents of that religion are living in the middle ages at best but that's religion for you.
I've no doubt it's the case that they were treated with kid gloves in the case of Rotherham etc and that should never be allowed to stand.
That, however, is not an argument that racism doesn't exist or is exaggerated. Racism is no more and no less abhorrent than the abuse of women. To use one as an example to trivialize the other is not on.
And I'm not suggesting you're racist trickster because i think you're above that.

who were you targeting by mentioning Asian grooming gangs then. And why mention labour councils. We get you've got an opinion that won’t be changed but when that opinion clouds your objectivity it’s useless. It’s just self confirmation bias. You proved our point very well, have done before and no doubt will continue to in the future. All the while whilst failing to acknowledge it.

but returning to the OP nudge must be pjssing himself at all this.

I wasnt seeking to trivialize or defend racism, in agreement with Mariokempes first paragraph I think it’s a word which people are frightened of and is used to stifle. I think that the Rotherham (and others) situation is an example of where fear of being accused of it was a major factor in the conduct of the authorities involved. Racism is abhorrent I agree and unfortunately I have experienced it in the workplace in less enlightened times along with homophobia. However, I’m happy to say that where I work both are a thing of the past and my operatives understand that neither are acceptable or will be tolerated during my time with the business.

When certain people in the media "politicians, Footballers etc" conduct them selfs by name-calling in a malicious way eg. Ron Atkinson calling a footballer "*****" or Boris Johnson calling people pickaninny's with water-melon smiles, then are such people Racist in my view YES but I must say I have never seen a poster on here with such outspoken views, but regarding this thread by Nudger it is stupid as there is not a constant obsession with racism and why would a poster set a thread off like this in the 1st place.

Asian grooming gangs, who mentioned muslims ? You did. Why ? Because you assumed that thats what I meant. Unfortunately whenever race comes into it folk can’t wait to make assumptions about the views of others and inevitably out comes the accusations of racism, either directly or veiled.

You're absolutely right that it was political correctness and the fear of being called racist that were major contributory factors in the grooming scandals - this point is beyond debate. That is exactly what I meant when I said that the inappropriate overuse of the term is damaging to the very issue that people want to eradicate.

It is staggering how quickly and inappropriately it is used on social media and is often used to stifle debate or build a straw man when the debate is being lost.

What I think weird is that the two aren't mutually exclusive.

When someone says they think elements of Brexit was racist - they are often met with BUT WHAT ABOUT ASIAN GROOMING GANGS. Well, yes. That whole shambles was a complete disgrace. You are allowed to think that two things are wrong.

You only seem to get this in politics though. The reply to "I think Dominic Cummings should resign" is often "BUT WHAT ABOUT KINNOCK". Well, yes, he should resign too. Your point is?

You don't get this in any other field. "That Fred West was a shocking person".....BUT WHAT ABOUT IAN BRADY.

For what it’s worth. All those that are racist voted Brexit. Not all those that voted Brexit are racist.

I work in most of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. And depending on which part you come from there tend to be more racist comments. ( I can generally tell the difference with a racist comment and an off the cuff remark)

Where there are large communities of BAME. You tend to get more distasteful/racist comments.
If anyone can only know a couple of genuine racists they’re living in a bubble. So to speak.

I generally also find the younger end more tolerant of race.
Some influenced by their parents if not.
Hopefully through teaching and more mixing of communities. It will get better.

If I may use the word
I used to say going for a chinky. It’s now frowned upon and I don’t use it. I certainly wouldn’t automatically think anyone was racist if they used that word.
    Inappropriate yes. racist possibly.

Racism card fecks me off when people choose to be disgusted on someones behalf. You've just said you used to call Chinese a "Chinky". I once was asked what I was having for supper and I said "a chinky". I didn't find the offence they took at what I'd said to meet the crime. If that makes sense.

Yeah I don't think you were being racist by saying that. The problem is a select few will use that term towards Chinese people in a derogatory way and then that tars that word and makes anyone that use it look a bit racist.

I get that, it’s only racist if it’s meant to be racist. We’re often referred to as ‘Brits’ it’s not racist.

Actually, yes. Oxfordshire though is Tory. The working class parts of Oxford are on a similar level to Barnsley in terms of poverty, but with more immigrants.

I always disliked Oxford because of Inspector Morse. I always thought if that boring, miserable old sod lived there it wouldn't have much going for it. Probably explains why I did two years at Whitwood tech and ended up at Haribo.
