I honestly haven’t a clue what’s going on !!! 4 cops kill a bloke - they should be locked up. End of foooking business. But a black man is far more likely to be killed by another black man than he is by a white man - especially a cop. What’s all this bend the knee malarkey!?!?! I bend my knee or bow to NO MAN !!! And that was instilled in me as a kid from mi dad. Can you imagine Yorkshire Miners bending their knee for anyone - because I CAN NOT,. This issue just seems another case of the media whipping the public up into a frenzy. And it’s difficult to understand what it’s really all about.
Do keep up and read my posts I’ve already said I don the think they should protest because of this Pandemic. If I didn’t hold that opinion and went I would be part of the vast majority and do it peacefully and lawfully.
For you its difficult yes. And the bending of the knee is a protest black American sportsmen have been doing against police violence. Google it. So when the Liverpool footballers did it it was an act of solidarity.
I'm all for protesting usually. In normal circumstances I tell myself it won't do any harm and MIGHT do some good. That isn't true at the moment.
Jack ****, basically. Just put our Police officers there when they could be elsewhere dealing with local crime.
I'd suggest your first course of action should be to GET yourself a clue about what's going on. Then you might not post so much rubbish.
I agree that, due to the circumstances, and the little impact it will have on the policing practices in the US, a demonstration at this time is not a good idea. This isn't a spontaneous protest from people who have simply had enough of the injustice, it's an organised demonstration. Yes, the vast majority of us are appalled by what happened to George Floyd. Many of us agree that policing in the US often appears abhorrently racist. But the power of citizens in this country to change that is negligible. And while showing solidarity with those directly affected is something many people might want to do, mass gatherings are discouraged, illegal even, because we're trying to stop the spread of a virus. We're globally connected on line and I would suggest you have more power using that medium to address this issue at the moment than taking to the streets of Barnsley. I take exception to your claim that protests usually end in disorder and violence though. That isn’t a matter of opinion it is simply incorrect. There are valid reasons why this suggestion isn't a good idea. That isn't one of them.
The lad has been receiving death threats and been thoroughly abused on the link so yes it's been removed.
Well I suppose we will see in a few weeks. No spikes in infections have occurred yet despite VE day celebrations (pi$$ up) and the easing of lcokdowns restrictions. Also other countries don't seem to have seen any either. Seems it's too early to tell if this is down to lockdowns suppressing the virus, the virus "burning out", climate (summer) or just a calm before a second wave. I know I wouldn't want to be going to a protest but I suppose the one in London for example will give data to work with.
The whole bend the knee malarkey was started by an American footballer called Colin kaepernick as a protest against injustices in society . He was then discredited by large sections of the US media for been disrespectful to the nation , especially soilders who had died in battle protecting the nation . https://sports.yahoo.com/green-bere...eeling-national-anthem-apology-220616369.html The irony in all this is that it was a highly decorated US marine who advised him to do it as it's what soldiers do to honour fallen comrades .
