I reported some guy a few years ago who kept doing monkey chants - spoke to someone at club who arranged for an undercover steward to put near him one game.

I've reported racism before (both on the day and via email afterwards) to be met with essentially a thanks but no thanks reply.

The steward on the day basically said it's impossible to approach a crowd of people, and the email reply was a 'thanks for your feedback we will look into it'.

I've given it up as a bad job now.

This is part of the problem, too many organisations pay lip service to dealing with racism. Its difficult and dangerous to confront it at a street level and disheartening when you report it to no avail.
I can say with certainty that next time I witness such behaviour I will look after myself and look away

These pitiful individuals haven't got a pot to piss in and exist on the margins of society.
We know historically that many people in these circumstances become mightily disenfranchised and are easy pickings for the far right. Many on here would have it they are a product of austerity. They are scumbags through and through and there is absolutely no chance they will ever change their view.

I approached a steward at Brentford a few years ago after someone shouted "I'd rather be a P*ki than a ginger" to one of their players - told there was nothing they could do without evidence. I mean obviously evidence would be needed for a charge but it still felt hopeless, the guy wasn't even spoken to or monitored for the rest of the game and I was too much of a wuss to confront the person head on.

I'm a bit of a snowflake ... but personally I would have liked the club to invite them in for a talk to actually try to educate them.
Not criticising the clubs response, but I think we all would benefit by going the extra mile & trying to educate. Could maybe give them a choice between a ban or attending a course. Banning them won't change their attitude, just hardens it & moves the problem elsewhere.
I assume that they live in an 'environment' that espouses those views and so either by ignorance or peer pressure they subscribe to them. Would be more beneficial to show them some opposing views.

Also, while I'm on the subject :) ... something I've often thought that the club could do is to hand out some sort of anti racism badge to supporters. I think one of the reasons that the issue isn't tackled at matches by supporters is that you can feel isolated when confronted by it and can't be sure that others would back you. If most of our fans openly displayed their objection to it it would have 2 effects.
    • Embolden those opposed to racism to act
    • Show those that are racist that they are in the minority

Would choosing not to wear said badge class one as a racist?

Upon receiving a ban, all individuals must attend a course that serves to educate, if they’re ever to be considered for re-admittance in the future. It’s already in place buddy.

Glad to hear that. Perhaps the club should advertise the fact & maybe follow up with some case histories if all parties were willing.
Just out of interest are the courses run by the club, or part of some football banning order scheme?

But having said that tykes talk on fb eventually took the post down highlighting these racists.... nothing to see here move along

Thinking all lives matter is not racist that’s just a cheap/misunderstood jibe .
Continually shouting down a civil rights organisation called black lives matter with all lives matter as a rebuke is racist .

Perhaps we should invite them to share their views face to face with Darren Moore...,,

I wonder if we hadn't had the BLM if Clark Odour would have felt in the position to highlight it too as well as the club being so quick to respond. I'm glad the protest was held in Barnsley, it will show our players that we're not all racists.

As part of the season pass offer they could have put in one of those Kick It Out t shirts the players train in before a game when we have that particular game every season. He might not want to but maybe even have Clarke meet both guys down at Oakwell for a chat? Police allow situations where victims get to meet those responsible and it could work.
