According the ONS there have been at least 63000 excess deaths this year and the UK economy is to contract by at least 11% this year according to the OECD making it the worst contraction of any developed countries economy. So the Governments failure to introduce lockdown earlier in the crisis because Cummings didn't want to risk trashing the economy to save a few pensioners has not only killed people it's also failed to protect the economy. Can you imagine the howls of protest from the media if it had been a labour of government making the catastrophic mistakes Boris and co have made and yet he's being allowed to gloss over the reality of the situation each and everytime he's interviewed or takes the daily briefing.

Johnson is a cockwomble leading a team of cockwombles into a land of milk and cockwomblery. it's beyond a joke yet the Tories will get elected again in 4 years time. Put a bet on.

You only have to look at this board over the past week to understand why.

You might want to add in a dose of Brexit as well remember, which was going to create a significant contraction on its own merit, then we really are going to be in for some pain in the next decade or so.

Do we think the general public should be proud of itself handling Covid19?

The general public wasn’t voted in to make these sorts of decisions for us.

Do I understand from your post that you would advocate sacrificing "a few pensioners" so the economy could be protected?

Or have I misunderstood what you are trying to say?

You’ve misunderstood. He’s saying that Cummings originally said he would rather pensioners die than the economy be wrecked so lockdown was delayed but both has ended up happening anyway.

    To add to Jamdrops response.

The real irony is that Cummings sees himself as the kind of maverick who thinks outside the box and makes the brave radical decisions. And the brave and radical thing to do would have been to lock down sooner and harder*, a short sharp shock to the spread of the virus would have saved lives and saved the economy better.

All the mistakes have been due to political dithering that we’d expect from a worse than average British government. No mistakes have been made because we chose brave or radical solutions.

*Throwing millions of £ at the problem in March would have saved billions by September.

we only need to look at the countries that handled it well.

    But Corbyn eh...

tbf they patently weren’t capable of following basic instructions , like do, it don’t do it, no he can but you can’t, when we said so and so we actually meant the opposite :p.

but Seriously on the other hand the wkrs that just didn’t give one also have to take some of the blame

Ok thanks for the clarification, it wasn't quite clear to me when I read it even a couple of times. Just goes to show it's always wise to clarify before jumping in feet first!

Apparently Mr Johnson was informed in a Cabinet meeting this week that a No-Deal Brexit could cost 3.5million jobs - His response was to curse then press on with a No-Deal Brexit.

Yes because he's got a ready made get out of jail card with Covid causing massive job losses, the ones caused by Brexit can be disguised

My pal lives in Perth where, with the same information as us, the western Australian government put an immediate quarantine in place for anyone at all re entering wa. This involved fully self isolating for 2 weeks with regular police checks and when the job got too big, they were put in hotels.
The pay received by everyone in lock down for the most part, matched or bettered their normal wage and subsequently it was a full lockdown from schools and work except genuine key workers.
The result of these stringent measures according to my mate is that around 7 people out of 2 million at any 1 time has covid. He’s missed 3 full weeks of work and the kids have only missed 4 weeks of school altogether.
Johnson is a bell end surrounded by many others out of their depth. Their government could have stopped a lot of this with hard action but didn’t have the balls to do it and that is a gut wrencher. For balance though, I believe a labour government would have been at least as weak which is why I’m hoping, no praying, that starmer can turn them into an actual political party so that we may believe what we’re hearing from these frauds.

You've massively misunderstood what I wanted to say. What I was trying to say was the government resisted implementing a lock down to "save the economy" then implemented one too late and ended up killing more people and still trashed the economy probably even more than an earlier lockdown would have done

This pretty much sums up the Government's handling of the crisis.

They try to claim that people are talking with the benefit of hindsight, but a week prior to lockdown, the Prime Minister asked people to not go to pubs, restaurants etc... So, the powers that be (politicians and scientists) knew the severity of the situation at the time. Yet Johnson will find a way to sweep that week of indecision, and the lives that ultimately cost, under the carpet, or throw someone like Vallance or Whitty under the bus.

This Government's ability to deny the undeniable is frightening.

Yet still not quite as frightening as the willingness of the masses to follow them.

:confused:What really annoys me about this:

As a remainer, I’m constantly bombarded with accusations of being unpatriotic and that I just need to believe in the great people of this country we’ll inherit a fantastic post Brexit economy.

But when I complain about the disastrous way this government (this country?) has dealt with Coronavirus, the very same Brexiteers defend the government to say that ‘it could be worse’, or that some other countries got it wrong too.

At no point do those Brexiteers want to measure us against high performing countries. They have no ambition at all to be world leaders on this issue. They don’t want to be proud of our achievements.

But the next minute they still want to be positive that we’ll have a fantastic post Brexit economy - designed by the same dithering idiots who have killed thousands due to mismanagement and bad political decisions.o_O

Government now circulating propaganda that the reason for more deaths in Britain is because we have a heavier travel hub than other countries .
Mat Hancock now taken on the Baton of this excuse .
What’s betting it’ll be argued for on here in next few days ?
The Tory propagandists have got the gullible in this country off to a tee .
