Just out of curiosity I looked at the equivalent league table from 2015 on March 10th sides had played approximately the same number of games Burton were champions with Wigan also automatic and the 4 playoff teams were Gillingham Walsall Millwall and Barnsley though we had the same points as Bradford. Its possible that a weighted final table would have had Bradford rather than us in 6th - I dont know how to work that out Interestingly one week later we were down to 8th 3 points off the payoffs In the final table both us and Bradford were in the playoffs and Wigan were champions - Gillingham were outside the top 6 At the other end Oldham were going down on March the 10th 3 points below Doncaster who were just safe but in the final table Doncaster went down and Oldham finished in 17th place 8 points above the relegation places Long winded way of saying promoting relegating sides with 9 or 10 games to go is almost certain to get somethings wrong In the current L1 I suspect Tranmere could well be this seasons equivalent of Oldham
This whole COVID saga has been bad for us. It's meant if nothing else, the pain of knowing we will be relegated drag on longer than it should.
may have been mentioned earlier - Macclesfield may still be docked points which will probably result in relegation. If they lose points for something done this season then I would hope Sheff w and Derby treated the same.
Mark Robins was chuffed to bits about this on Midlands Today last night ..... he ALMOST raised a smile! Best wishes to Coventry, though. Mark has refined them into a really good footballing side, but i would still love us to steal Walsh from Bristol City in the close season. Another box-to-box playmaker in the Mowatt mould. Really rate him and he has had a great loan season at the Sky Blues, but is still a Bristol City player.
3 out of the bottom 4 in league one at this stage last season avoided relegation can understand why Tranmere are so aggrieved tbh.
I wouldn't be surprised if (some) clubs were allowed to exceed FFP losses for the next few years in light of "exceptional circumstances", ie Coronavirus, conveniently letting them and the EFL off the hook. They just need to drag it out long enough to feel they can get away with giving them a pass.
it does seem like it’s a massive get out of jail card going forwards. For Wednesday and Derby however the “offenses” if proved took place long before this virus caused the shutdown
Hence my comment about dragging it out. In any reasonable world those offences would be considered outside of the context of shutdown but it wouldn't surprise me if after a long delay something dodgy went on to conflate the two.
Yes but given the additional problems caused by Corona it would be inappropriate to punish them further at this time.... you can write it for them
How old are you - 6? You follow professional football in the EFL and you expect ‘fairness’. When do you think that existed? I can tell you now why we will be justifiably relegated. For pretty much the same reasons as when we were last relegated. Incompetent ownership with little or zero knowledge of the professional game who have made a serious of bizarre and inexplicable decisions. And another thing.......if I were taking a wild stab in the dark, they will do it again......and again.....and again. They need to go.
Oi idiot, You keep using the words justifiably relegated, and then acknowledge that fairness doesn’t come into the EFL.jWow. The EFL want integrity, then they stick to their rules for a start. Don’t try and lecture me what’s gone right and what’s gone wrong at the club. I am fully aware of what’s happened. You continue to berate them if you like, but don’t try and be condescending to opinions/criticisms about the EFL in order to justify your opinion of the club.
mmm. yes, you're right. I was condescending. Not covered myself in glory there at all. I apologize. Thank you for resisting the temptation to respond in kind! We may be at cross purposes. My point was to expect anything around 'fairness' 'following the rules' 'even playing field' at ANY level in professional football is naïve. There's 150 years of evidence to suggest that doesn't exist. If you want the best example in terms of how BFC have been affected, go back to 1919 - corruption personified. It's always been that way, I don't expect anything different from the 'Authorities'. My main point was (and I know you don't agree with it) is, what a convenient excuse for Conway and his 'colleagues'. Deflects the blame where it properly lays - right at their door. And the worst thing? it will happen again. No evidence of learning from the past.
Really cant understand why Peterborough and Wycombe didn't play another match to see who got the last playoff spot. I think this would have been easier for P' bro fans to swallow and
