He’s far more than ‘ a bit of a knob’ it’s immoral in my book. Also, this is a great opportunity for these billionaires to show people of this country that they really do care and donates massive amounts back to the treasury

Absolutely agree. If all billionaires donated to the treasury all profit made during the pandemic then it wouldn't harm them.

Sorry if you’ve read this on the Rashford thread but I thought this one would be more appropriate

How many of us on half decent wages would put another few pence on income tax.
I’ve had negative comments in the past on this issue during covid. About how the filthy rich would hide their money. That’s life and I hope they get their just dessert .

So my point is why is it not looked at. An increase in taxes ( paye) and new thresholds. I’m certainly not in favour of raising the basic rate.. But ( and it would be for the government to decide) why are other thresholds not brought in and raise the tax .
    Eg. £200,000 pa 60%
    £350, 000 pa 75%
That way the fall out from this will at least fall a bit more on the wealthy.

Whilst I’m, as I say fully behind Rashford on his memo. The taxpayer will eventually pick up the bill. And these b’std tories Will choose austerity over personal wealth.
Obviously those not paye would have to be brought to task also.

Based on my estimated figures anyone on £20k per week. £1m pa. ( bear in mind that’s probably an apprentice wage in the premier league) would still take home circa. £320k.minus NI approx £20k
£300k £6kpw Looks drastic but your not going to starve.
Would probably mean another £260k extra in taxes. Rather than their pockets.
We’re altogether in this my arse. And the General public accept it ffs. ( sure some Wizz kid will put me right on the figures. But it’s an attempt)

Whilst on. On a similar theme. Re food vouchers. For those of us that can afford to contribute please don’t forget, when you go to the supermarket food banks are still there to contribute. Cost of a pint per would make all the difference. Not an instruction just a thought.

Being involved in the 1yr strike. I valued the food parcels and will be forever grateful to those that contributed. Putting in food bank collections at the supermarket is the Least I could do.

That’s a matter of outlook. Normal is a state of mind.

From where I’m sat (at home working) I’m expecting to be here till next July at the earliest (CV related- but obviously won’t be the same for everyone). I don’t think anyone else will be ‘locked down’ at that point.

The only limitations on my lifestyle right now are:
    No holidays
    No pub / restaurants
Limit to the number of people I can socialise with at the same time. I’ve just spent the morning scheduling the kids for Father’s Day :(

Making billions whilst furloughing staff for the nomal members of the public to pay for is disgusting. Is it surprising? No. We've created a culture somehow where that is acceptable.

The tories won't mention it because that's the world they're from. The worst bit is they'll keep voting the tories in. Utterly depressing.

Who is it you think is making excess profits due to corona virus? GDP is down 20%. Most businesses have taken a big hit - including those owned by the billionaires.

GDP is down but for every million losers there’s a big winner. As per the thread title. :)

So according to you and some others on here, the UK is the only country whose economy will take a big hit. The Guardian
banner headlines re GDP to debt ratio of just over 100% " worst since 1963" was also way over the top given many other countries in the EU with large economies e.g. Italy have much worse figures. In fact many countries World wide have huge GDP to debt deficits e.g. Japan 200%

People should really get a grip and stop constantly running the UK down based on their own particular political prejudices. I am not for one minute saying the figures should not be reported but certain newspapers use it as stick to beat the Govt with disregarding we are far from being in a worse situation than many other countries.

Same with the trace software. Anyone would think, reading certain newspapers, that the UK is alone in having come undone relying on unproven tech. Whilst they were guilty of exaggerating how soon and how effective it would be, every country including Singapore (who were held up as a good example of a successful system) have found it is fatally flawed. Many issue are down to platforms not accepting the centralised (most effective) solution due to potential and actual breaches in 'privacy policies' Italy has used some regions, including ours to pilot the Apple/Google system with limited success due to take up being low. On top of suspicion people have over security, given the app has to be on 24/7 it drains the phone batteries quite quickly so many people will not down load it or turn it on. In short a working solution is not available anywhere and is unlikely to be so for a considerable period of time

From the very start, this government have been feeding us a diet of bullsh*t to cover up their mistakes and incompetence.

Expect more of the same when the full effects of Brexit begin to bite.

I don’t see many people running the UK down. I see lots of people running the govt down and I can see that’d upset you.

frankly your posts often sound like you’re tucking into fillet steak and telling us we should be enjoying our mince and onion pie.

It is the Govt who keep telling us they are achieving their own Unrealistic deadlines and targets and they are providing world- leading technology in track and tracing. We are just holding them to their word. How can you point the finger at anyone when vital things like honesty and transparency are sadly lacking in this Govt.
