Or the 16 points on QPR - Even if we get to 50 points - which is a big ask QPR will gain some points - I think the teams we need to finish above are 3 from Luton Charlton Hull Wigan Boro and Huddersfield - Wednesday as well if they get a points deduction but not holding my breath on that one
I think you and @Wellsie massively missed my point (or I didn't explain it very well!). We play both of those teams, QPR and Blackburn, and others who might have nothing to play for. I wasn't saying we should catch them but if they're not interested it could work in our benefit. Three wins in a row for WIgan and they might be on the beach by the time we play them too.
I I thought you meant that they could switch off so much that we could catch them. Rather hoping that Wigan arent on the beach - they are one of the sides we have a chance of catching if they have a poor restart
I really hope your thinking works out. I also believe we are a good footballing team and if we start in the right manner then who knows what is possible. I think it will be very close at the bottom of the league, but where do I see us finishing, ideally 4th from bottom, preferably higher.
Just accept we are relegated. I have. Owt else would be a huge bonus. And we deserve to be relegated. It’s been a shambles this season. All good intentions from the directors but the experiment to throw a load of young players together didn’t work. What I have seen of other teams this season - the only clubs that should be relegated before Barnsley are those that severely broke the FL rules.
Ahh got you now, sorry I did read it as if you were saying they would switch off and we could catch them, not that they would switch off and we could get points against them. Probably my mistake, I didn’t realise we still had Brum and Blackburn to play. Not really looked at the fixtures past QPR to be honest.
Based on form pre-Covid they were on the verge of being out of sight anyway. I'd happily see them pull clear before they play us and hand us three points.
I struggle to understand this " nothing to play for" mentality. Dont most footballers, football teams want to win, want to score goals, want to best their opponent? My son hates losing football matches and that's just with a local team.
I'm pretty confident all footballers hate to lose. But you can't deny that if something is riding on the performance, vs. when it doesn't matter, the intensity levels might be different - even for your son. The desire to avoid relegation vs. a desire to just win a game of football should be a different dynamic in an empty stadium where you haven't got the fans behind you.
I can see there being more pressure on the must win/ mustn't lose matches but those with nothing to play for presumably just go outo and play with no pressure? And still wanting to win?
But I think you're discounting the lack of a crowd. Nobody plays to lose, but it's natural to not have as much of an edge as your opponent when there's nothing to play for. In some cases that freedom might help them, but there will be scenarios where the crowd are the reason the game matters, and without them your intensity levels aren't quite there.
