sorry guys I cannot see why this was needed, all it will do is throw fuel onto a raging fire and fan it.

some on here will perhaps tell me I am missing a point, but I do not think this is needed at all. It certainly does not encourage harmony in any shape or form for me. Some radical groups will take offence and react. Sorry but I feel Sky TV are being very irresponsible here. I wonder if the big names on there gave permission in such a short space of time to use their image's.

For every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction. Who said that..............

Hate this idea that people should stop saying black lives matter because it "stokes the fire" or causes further division. If the idea that black lives matter causes friction then its those who feel offended by the cause (the f***ing racists) who need to be pulled up, not those asking for equality. It's almost as though you're saying, "yeah we know there's a few issues with racism, but try not to cause a fuss mate because it just makes all those racists even more angry". I was always aware that racism existed in this country but the recent BLM protests have made me realise it's a bigger issue than I feared.

For me it's only the actual phrase black lives matter that I've got any problem with because that started off as a reference specifically to black deaths at the hands of police. I wish they'd come up with another slogan that more accurately reflects the aim of the majority of the campaign which I think is much more about the racism that black people face every day to varying degrees.

I haven't really learnt anything during this campaign because I already knew how much racism there is but I am sure there are a lot of people who didn't see it before who now do or who didn't realise certain aspects of racism that they now know about.
When I say I haven't learnt anything I don't think i know everything I just haven't particularly seen anything I wasn't aware of but I'm sure there are lots I just haven't seen or heard about yet.

That video from sky is absolutely brilliant Imo. It sends out three very clear messages.
It reminds us that racism is everywhere even though many of us may not see it
It inspires black people and tells them their skin colour doesn't define them or limit them in anyway
And most importantly it calls on all of us to come together.

It isn't aggressive, it doesn't accuse anybody of anything, and it's use of black celebs that we look up to is a nice subtle reminder to black people what they can become and to none black people that we do like or respect or even hero worship some black people. How can you be racist when you pay good money to watch will smith movies or to watch a boxing match etc?

    Perfect message well executed imo

Good post. I can kind of understand some concerns over the wording of BLM, even though I do disagree with your opinions regarding police brutality. I also believe that those who object to BLM would also object to any protest with similar aims, regardless of the slogan.

I reckon it's probably about 50/50 but I see what you mean. A lot just want an excuse to be able to say they object. Had an argument with someone at work about exactly that actually (with him being the one objecting to the movement).

Genuine question but what do you disagree with me about regarding police brutality? Only asking because I've posted so many different things lately that it could be owt

Also I've just thought of something I have learnt. I didn't know how many famous historical figures had links to slavery or that we had statues to slave owners.

I may have got the wrong poster, but I thought I recalled you arguing that black people suffer no more hardship from the police than white individuals do. And that was one of the reasons you objected to the message conveyed by the BLM movement. Apologies if I'm wrong on this. Tried to search your previous posts to come back with some evidence but you're that prolific it seemed an impossible task!

I sort of did but didn't intend it quite that way. I meant that in terms of deaths at the hands of the police the numbers of white compared to black deaths can be largely explained by a few things but (key part). There is no justify or excuse for the harassment that many black people suffer at the hands of the police.

Ah I see. I'd perhaps need to see those figures then before engaging in further discussion so let's leave it for now. And that's not me f***ing off any debate (although I think we agree on most matters), it's just I'd need a bit more info and a bit more time to respond.

I've learned loads from this campaign, I've posted some on here too. Even something like black ballet dancers having to dye their own pointe shoes because the only ones produced are pink flesh coloured.

The most encouraging thing is the reaction of the younger generation. I hope this is the last push to finally getting to "all lives matter".

Isaac Newton. Every body remains in it's state of rest, or uniform motion unless compelled by some external force to act otherwise.

Wouldnt need to be black, more a brown skin tone because the whole idea of ballet tights and shoes is to elongate the legs by being close to flesh colour.

A supermarket (I think it was Tesco) did a post advertising their new dark skin tone plasters and the comments on there were disgusting. It’s the things like that, and the ballet shoes, that people don’t really think about or realise until it is pointed out. Same with ‘nude’ bras/Spanx etc. One, the term ‘nude’ in the first place as a BAME person would look anything but naked in a beige coloured product and two, that the products aren’t even produced in any shade of brown - only a jet black which I’m certain is to look slimming, not that is was made specifically for black people.
