Very extreme...no one is saying we dont need to sell...we know we have to. Why keep saying purchase experience? Why not just loan 2 players to improve our kids?
In view of the current circumstances though, don’t you think championship wages might be coming closer to Barnsley rather than the opposite?
Same here mate. I'm tempted now it's late in day but feel like the owners have created a great business model ... To make money. I'm a fan not a shareholder. I grew up on watching us fight a good fight in the second tier them actually making the Premier league. This fighting to yo yo between second and third tier then make progress then sell all the assets just doesn't do it for me. Its not all the owners fault in that football had changed and the Premier league greed had killed smaller clubs. I'll always love the club but right now just feel sad at it all rather than entertained
To be fair RH, I’ve never read RR posts like that, they generally read to me as him giving a viewpoint on the reason why they act like they do.
Best signing we’ve had for ages, having a young squad is great but so much better when you have a couple experienced players in there to guide them along and give them that mental strength
The reason that I made the post that you quoted was so that others could use the figures, or even dispute the figures in order to justify their own assertions. It turns out that no-one wants to do that. They just want to make unsubstantiated assertions, with no justifications. OK, if that is what people want to do I can do nothing more, but do not expect me to take your point seriously. You see, without proof that you have thought about the issues, it is just so much hot air, an unconsidered reaction, a questioning of people who make their living from the game, and who are still in the game because they are right more than they are wrong. And yet you expect me to take notice of some unsubstantiated clap-trap and take it as a valid contribution. I'm sorry for that. You did not deserve it, but today has confirmed my decision to post less frequently and has highlighted the fact that there are very few people who I can have a serious conversation with. Let me test that assumption. What sort of qualities are you looking for from the experienced players that we loan. Do they need to be current first team player with a high level club? I only ask because if they are not, it is very unlikely that they will improve our team, but if they are, why would their current club be prepared to release them on loan. Because the loan club is not gaining anything (eg first team experience for a young player on the edge of the action) so they will probably want a decent loan fee, and they will certainly want us to pay the whole of his wages. The player might benefit our inexperienced young players, but he may not be the right sort. Not everyone has the temperament for coaching and we will only know for sure once he arrives. The long and short of it is this. We may pay a fee, we may pay wages that we cannot afford and we may not get a player who commands a place on merit in the first team or who is reluctant to pass on his experience to younger players. At the end of his loan, he goes back and the team is no better off, and it has cost us a lot of money and there is no transfer fee income. Now it may not happen like that, but that would be my concern if I were in charge of policy. Once again, I would point out that club staff know what they are doing. In fact, they know far more than you or I.
Yes he is. There really is no other answer. He's played more first team games, he has more experience, he's more experienced.
Nobody wants to have a serious conversation with you largely due to the horrible arrogance running through 95% of your posts.
Kevin Long was a great addition, squad player at Burnley, experienced and made a great impact helping Mawson and Roberts. For all the arguments of youth versus experience it is not an either or, but a combination. If experience improves the team and helps development of other younger players then there is a return on the investment. Not necessarily in the player value (especially if it is a loan) but in the extra football league distribution for being in the Championship. There is no guarantee of success but that equally applies to signing a raft of youngsters on long contracts, it is a different risk both on and off the field.
No I didn't. Please don't make things up. You're referring to the post in this thread about a 19 year old., http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/michael-sollbauer.287689/page-4 "Do you think our defence required a 19 year old with limited first team experience in a league well below the level we're currently playing at?"
Sollbauer got hammered on here after his debut at Portsmouth. He was off the pace and got pushed and kicked all over the place. And yet, despite the fact that he'd only met the lads a day or two before, you could see he was trying to help, advise, organise, encourage and motivate. It was clear to me then that he was exactly what we needed, but it would take him a few games. Which it did, by which time we'd lost a few more games. If we'd signed him earlier, I honestly believe we'd be about 10 points better off by now.
I still don't believe he's a great player. Not terrible, but we've all seen some fantastic centre halves play for Barnsley over the years and I don't believe he'll ever be mentioned in the same breath as any of them. However, he tells his defensive team mates where to stand. He talks to them and organises them. In that respect he's exactly what we needed. He is the epitome of what people were saying we needed when they talked about experience. My favourite post in this thread is from Cunning Stunt referring to the influence our older centre halves had on the younger ones over the years and how, in turn, the younger ones helped the older ones prolong their career. That sort of balance can be so effective.
Christ. I'd forgotten how much of a condescending **** this bloke is. Nobody wants to play your numbers game because you've just made stuff up. I can do that. Why do we have such a big squad? We've around a 35 man squad. Our average wage is say, 5k a week. That means we pay 180k a week. Why don't we have a 24 man squad. That's more than enough. We can then pay our players 7.5k on average per week. We can then pay for experience rather than untested players. Easy isn't it. Just make stuff up. That's how it works.
