Just make stuff up. That's how it works.[/QUOTE] If it's good enough for the government... (not that I'm saying RR is making stuff up, he's just putting his point of view forward with examples, something most of his critics don't do with their point of view).
He makes some great points but usually signs off his posts with "..but no-one can understand me because I work on a different level to you plebs".
I enjoy RR's views...i also like his minority reports and was looking forward to one from last night as i think tactically Struber played a blinder, with 3 changes snd the style/ formation seemed to change far more positively. This game and our club is all about opinions and RR has his.....often reminding us of his accounting background and some decent research and numbers. If you dont mind me saying so RR, i differ in opinion over our owners and the way we should apply ourselves. I will continue to debate with you over the merits of the best way forward on a football and financial side. I wont take any comments personally and will engage with you (or anyone) who is prepared to discuss bettering our team...COYR!
Yeah so what if he's articulate and a cut above. I'll give him some slack because his long winded messages cure my insomnia
When I've talked about experience I've never meant specifically Championship experience. I'm not sure anybody has. When we signed Conor he was 23 (I think?) and had 125 appearances for Plymouth under his belt. Scowen had made almost 100 appearances for Wycombe. And it wasn't just about appearances - they were leaders and captains. Still rough, sure, and not experienced at the level we expected them to play, but experienced footballers nonetheless. Furthermore, I'm sure that at the time we were told this is what the club had been looking for - players who were young but had significant experience playing at a level not too much lower than ours. I thought that number of appearances was on the spreadsheet, so to speak. From a much lower level we also got Pinnock (200-odd appearances) and Marc Roberts (89). Lots of our most successful players over recent years held down a first team place at a single club over three or four years. Regardless of level, to manage that surely you need to have something about you. I'm probably missing players who hardly played before they rocked up at Oakwell and were brilliant for us, and vice versa, but my point is that Sollbauer was a club captain with 300 appearances under his belt - that was exactly what we needed given the situation in which we found ourselves at the beginning of the season. They could be the next best thing, and I think Mads, Halme and Bambo have the potential to be really good, but I don't think they'd played half that number of matches between them. And they made mistakes - who wouldn't?
I don't doubt that, Tonjytyke. But they will not drop to the level we pay. Our philosophy seems to be to wait until the (financial) tide goes out. As I've said before, it would be delusional to think that everything else will stand still and we will emerge from it all triumphant. We can't run a Championship team on a League One budget. It's nonsensical. As I sit here tonight, apparently over 6,000 people have renewed under the 'early bird', which is admittedly a good offer if you are a believer. For me, this Board are not acting in the club's best interests, and certainly not in a way that is consistent with their stated aim of securing stability in the Championship. I love the club and it's history, but I am far from convinced by these owners and I'm not prepared to put money in to their business, despite the heroic efforts of the players. I will be astonished if we still have Woodrow, Mowatt, Brown and Chaplin whenever the next season starts. And so it goes. Forever and ever. Amen.
This current side has already accrued 41 points despite a 17 game winless run, a managerial departure, COVID-19 and by and large, seen the majority of players pilloried by the fanbase. Davies, Potts, Pinnock, Lindsay, Yiadom, Bradshaw, Moore, Hammill, Mills, Gardner, Barnes, McBurnie, Mahoney etc etc. Just some of the squad who got relegated in 2018, on 41 points.
Just a quick reply RR, my dad (now in his 80s) has been involved in professional football clubs for over 50 years....he tends to just watch these days. Most of them at a level above the championship, he has given me a great insight into the footballing world and players themselves. I have never met a bloke who can identify tallant in players like he can and be constantly correct, from a young age. When he tells me that there are plenty of players available who would do us a great job... i believe him. He told me that Pinnock had a raft of clubs circling and that we definately sold very short...im not even sure Nathan knew how many were sniffing around! I believe in our plan (with adjustments) however i think it unrealistic to expect kids to compete at this level and therefore the plan needs tweaking and financially, if our backroom know what they are doing they will do their homework and bring in players with the correct attitude to making us more competitive at this level. Is there any guarantee that will happen? no...but our young lads have been admirable in their application but have lacked knous. You asked what kind of player would i get.....well ive been lucky enough to attend matches with dad over the years and the better clubs burn the midnight oil and do a number on personalities as well as their attributes etc etc...is that us? not sure but if we want success on the pitch or in any business you do your homework. I cant fault 70% of the players we bring in, however we have a tendency to sell early and as this season has shown overall stuggled to compete at this level due to our recruitment and a basic understanding if what is required at this level. I do not blame the lads who cross the whitewash every week. 2 loan players versus 4/5 young uns....yes please...and i think coaches past and present have voiced the same opinion. Ps any chance if a minority report from last night?
Let’s assume you own your house and wish to sell. You place a valuation (or the estate agent does), based upon a knowledge of the market. You get one bid which is, unfortunately, way below the valuation. Do you sell? Well, perhaps you do if you are desperate. So, presumably we were desperate. Or, alternatively, the valuation placed upon the player was way below that which we poor sods would have assumed to be realistic for a player who clearly was going to do very well in the Championship. My honest assumption is that they would have accepted any offer that turned a profit, and that Brentford could possibly have signed him for much less. I’ll bet they are kicking themselves. Not.
Unfortunately, your analogy fails because you have only the length of the house's contract to sell your house, and if you fail to sell in time, you lose the house. But seriously, do you know whether the player was exerting pressure upon us. Do you know if his contract had a transfer clause in it which said he must be notified of any interest beyond an agreed fee of £x. Do you know if there is a sell on clause similar to the one that earned the club an extra £5m in the case of the sale of John Stones to Everton. You see, there is so much that we do not know, or can ever know. Now I prefer to give the people who run the club the benefit of any doubt because they must know stuff that I do not know. Stuff that is relevant to every transaction that the club conducts, whereas many just chose to think that everyone is an idiot bar them. It is up to you how you regard the world, but expect to be proven wrong at regular intervals.if you undervalue people.
I'd say he has defo been part of the improvement.. Big improvement on Lindsay IMO. But what Jordan William's mentioned about Struber drilling into them not all to bomb forward all at once has been the biggest factor. We were caught out far too often earlier in the season. That plus less individual errors recently, pretty much sums it up.
That has to work both ways Helen. There is no ‘slack’ coming back for anybody who doesn’t completely agree with him.
True. Not everyone's social cues are at the same level though and its even harder when you are discussing using the written word
That's a very good point actually. I've never really "got" Struber, and I've disagreed strongly with some of his tactics and substitutions in the past. But I can't disagree with the results he's getting - and the players seem to want to play for him. If he keeps us up it'll he a fantastic achievement. He still needs to start Chaplin like.
Just for clarification, it was supposed to be taken as read that I meant someone with a bit of quality as well! I wasn't suggesting that 34 year old Billy Cloggger, available on a free from Grimsby after over 400 games for them, Lincoln, Northampton and Boston United would have been the answer to our problems.
By way of getting myself back into your good books, here is some more Tiger Moth Tales / Peter Jones. Enjoy!
And yet another new piece from one of his other bands (Red Bazaar). He really is an awesome talent. It is just a shame that prog is not popular any more, because his name would be huge.
