Well done you thoroughly don’t deserve it. This article goes on to say 3 Tories who had the Whip taken from them are also rewarded in order to help heal the rift in the Party. That’s ok then as long as the Tories look after themselves and their ilk. Tory voters you did us proud. Come on then , but Labour blah blah blah.

Austin and Woodcock get the nod, Bercow doesn’t. Very petty, very predictable.

Peerages a very out dated thing and not applicable in this day and age.
Westminster still living in the dark ages and the unfair class system should be dispensed with.

Agree with that Ian and imo they should be replaced with something similar to the Nobel awards and only to those who have contributed for the betterment of society and not for licking prime ministers arses .

Botham has done a lot of charity work and won the Ashes.

Done more to deserve one than many other people who have been given peerages, like Phillip Hammond for example.

The one that really got under my skin was John Taylor. Taylor was the prospective tory candidate for Cheltenham in the 90’s. When the local tories found out that Taylor was black, they refused to instate him as candidate and he was replaced.
What happened then was shameful. He was given a peerage, (lord Taylor of Warwick I believe) he said nothing, and did nothing other than undermine the cause of rights and respect for minorities. He crawled away with a nice little pat on the head and made absolutely NO waves. Just for. ‘class balance’ contrast that story with the plight of Ricky Tomlinson who went to prison rather than
    relinquish his principles.

That didn't happen, he was chosen as the Tory candidate for Cheltenham but lost to the Lib Dems.

He was later jailed for fiddling his expenses.

Sorry, I was only partially right. I remembered the race issues but I did think he was stood down as a candidate

Westminster will be allowed to live in the ‘ Dark ages’ and ‘unfair class system’ will always be propped-up as long as the ordinary person continues to support the Tories and I include blue-rinsed Labour voters in that.

Botham likes to shoot birds for sport. For that alone he's a Grade A See You Next Tuesday.

Must be true then if someone from the Times says so.

Is Hammond getting one for his services to Remain?

Ian Botham is in the same bracket as that other nasty ******* Jack Charlton.
They love to inflict pain and suffering on wild animal.
Certainly NOT my type of people.

you'd have thought that with 13 years in power the labour party would have made some real in roads into the way our 'democracy' is run, i remember how the likes of john prescott were hammering the house of lords whilst he was in opposition, even going as far as a commitment to abolish it altogether and replace it with an elected second chamber... yet precott is now a lord,

whatever you do please do not think that it is only the tories who keep this country in the dark ages with an unfair class system
