    I thought just one more, or it could be an option for the club. But there was also a fair chance he had a release clause if we relegated. But in the end they don't tend to give us too much detail on any contacts.

    Googled it and a few sites state June 2022, found this that confirms the release clause

    If Barnsley has to start in the third division, the defender has an exit clause in his contract that runs until summer 2022. Several clubs from the championship show interest, the German relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf is also concerned with the Carinthian.

    Made such a difference to have experience at the back.
