Couple of threads on this with posters supplying input with more legal knowledge than me have put my mind at ease.

The way I see it is that IF Wigan had cut their cloth accordingly they would not have gone into administration but like a few others they spent beyond their means, it's all down to them.

Surely they cant get this over turned? I mean I feel for the players and fans etc. as over the course of the season they have proved to not be one of the 3 worst teams in the league, but the facts are that they achieved that by spending more than they could physically afford. Yes the owner in charge is some very dodgy bloke and the EFL have let him come in without proper checks, but senior officials at the club have also welcomed talks with him without smelling a rat.

Yes they earned more points than many teams, but I am sure if Barnsley had wrongly spent the same sort of money in summer then we too would be mid table. We didn't cos we abide by the rules.

The appeal shouldn't be overturned, but the chances of the EFL having watertight operational rules is pretty slim, which is why Wednesday and Birmingham will be playing in the Championship next season.

You would get more back cos they would have an estimated £6 million extra coming in, meaning club is worth more

Swindon successfully appealed against a 2 division demotion it was reduced to one division. Financial irregularities?

But at the minute there is no buyer, players are being sold. It's a gamble by the administrators.

As I have said in another thread, the administrators stated yesterday that they have chosen a preferred bidder and they have until noon today to sign the relevant paperwork take it to the next level.

He also stated that a decision would be taken today on whether to proceed with the appeal or or withdraw it. Now I think that will be down to what the preferred bidder wants to do, i.e start in league 1 with a lower budget to get their house in order or take a chance in the courts.

As others have mentioned the comments from Paul Cook and the body language of the players says to me that they are resigned to playing in league 1 next season

I guess there must be some reasoning as to why that I don’t know about but I think something needs to be done with the goal difference for penalised teams.

Yes, Wigan had the points taken off but imagine if they’d have stayed up on goal difference. The players they cannot afford, having a positive impact on their goal difference.

I’m not sure what the reduction should be but I feel like something should be in place. Of course, that won’t happen until the scenario plays out. Forever reactive rather than proactive.

I was thinking this exact ting at about 85 minutes yesterday. They had a mid-table goal difference which would have saved them if we had not scored...

Just throwing daft money at a spurious appeal doesn’t mean you’ll succeed - look at Man City.......oh........

I was just going to post a scenario that my Ipswich-supporting mate sent me. If Wigan lose their appeal, might they then take a page out of our playbook and sue the league for not penalising Wednesday and Derby this season? That'd be fun to watch as a "disinterested party".

I dont hope Wigan win their appeal but I do hope Wednesday are docked at least 9 points and it should be more Just annoyed that Birmingham and Derby arent down there as well
