Also, what's all this "little old Wigan" business? They've been paying stupid wages for years now - I'm not letting them nick our hard-earned "likes of" tag,

It happened to Portsmouth in 2011, a much bigger club than Wigan and they haven’t recovered from that almost 10 years on. Fact is their owner placed them into voluntary administration as the club had run out of cash flow and they refused to fund their liabilities. End of...

It’s it the same administrator Kresner that was in charge of Leeds administration! I seem to recall he came out with idiotic statements back then aswell.

leeds got the rules changed i believe as they went into admin at something like 16-50 on the day they were officially relgated so they got the points deduction that season ( think boston did the same) and thats why the rules were changed to make it a points deduction the following season if you stayed up. but i could have got it all mixed up ?

The more comments I read from them the dumber they sound. Literally painful.

    Enter administration, receive -12 points.

It's really that simple, and no amount of belly-aching, finger-pointing or jealousy aimed in other club's direction will make a difference.

For their sake, they'd better hope the next owners bring about a reality check and have them living within their means. They've been buying their way up the pyramid for 25 years, and as soon as the rules on ownership spending (FFP, P&S etc) altered, it is no surprise Whelan checked out and within a couple of years they've got to this stage.

Still, they won an FA Cup off the back of it and had a decent spell in the top flight.

Barnsley FC have nothing to be ashamed of in all of this. BFC play by the EFL rules throughout, rules that are drawn up and agreed by its member clubs.

2011/12 Portsmouth were deducted 10 points for going into administration. Ironically we managed to avoid relegation as a result! Year after they also got a hefty points deduction relegating them to league 2.

2015 - Administration rules changed to 12 points deduction. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33027933

I might be wrong but didn’t Leeds get punished the following season anyway with a 15 point deduction at the start for other admin rules around not agreeing a cva. And triggered the rule change Wigan are now suffering from.

Can remember his involvement in some capacity at Leeds making bullish statement likening the sound of his own voice. Isn’t he the one that sold Leeds to Ken Bates of all people?

For some reason it's our fault that WOW we strictly live within our means in a cash spunking league (insane grand total of a 3m loss people!!, how dare we!!), and we magically find ourselves in the bottom echelons.
Give it up, Wigan. The rules are the rules and you've been taking the p!ss for years.
And the bit about us "making enemies"? What a shame. Little club has enough backbone to challenge the cheating scum and we're the bad guys? Backwards Lanc tw@ts

No issue at all with the Wigan fans. They’re clinging to whatever they can. We’d be doing exactly the same.

It could have been A nother club in our place and it would have been same rhetoric from both sets of fans .
What the fek being in bottom three since September had got to do with it i don’t know ?
We still in bottom three Wigan went into administration taking us out by the rules which they signed up for .
They were gonna be bitter to whichever club took their place which happened to be us , their fans are hurting as would we be but it’s not the clubs finishing third bottoms fault it’s the Owners ,
Because they had dodgy owners rest of us have to ignore the rules and let them off .
None of the clubs finishing third bottom would have done especially us and Luton who have had to watch with envy while they overspend 168% of their budget ?
That’s the reason we were in the bottom three Wigan because we played fair and were cheated by clubs as you spending money that wasn’t there .
Turn your anger and energy where it’s due on shady owners and start questioning when overpriced players come your way instead of cheering and ignoring your false position .
If you’d played by the rules non of this would be happening .

Spot on. Would they finish in the same position with a smaller budget than us? Play fair and they might find out.

WIGAN'S administrators want a new buyer to pay the crisis club’s wages NEXT WEEK.

The hard-up outfit face a financial headache as they try to sell players in a hurry to sort out their bills.

But this new demand has shocked potential bidders who will have to fork out around £1million in salaries immediately.

Paul Cook’s squad are due their August pay cheques in full and the administrators want a buyer to sign up for this as they struggle to raise the funds by player sales.

Most will have cuts in their deals after relegation while some will have left to reduce the amount from its previous £1.6m level.

But it is an instant extra demand when any buyer is already under huge pressure to exchange contracts by Friday.

If the Wigan players cannot be paid within a fortnight then they can ALL give notice to leave for nothing, putting the club on the brink of meltdown.

This has put off some prospective buyers who are already anxious about the overall price of taking on a League One club.

The administrators want around £7-8m from the new owner who will also have to show funds for two years to the EFL.

Ironically that number has dropped since relegation, with around £20m needed to hold in reserve.

The admin process has been difficult so far.

I can reveal that the first preferred bidder dropped out within hours of being offered the Latics.

A second was due to sign on Thursday by noon AND hand over a £100,000 deposit.

The time frame is made worse by the fact Wigan are appealing against the 12-point for going into administration that sent them down.

That hearing is also on Friday, with a decision due soon after and hopefully before the EFL confirm promotion and relegation at a meeting a week later.

In a further twist, if Wigan are successful then the new buyer would then have to pay MORE wages as the players would still be on Championship terms.

That’s interesting and really does beg the question who is paying the £500k for the appeal. And why are they perusing it anyway when it’s much easier to show the funding and cut wages to manageable levels if they are in L1.
