Assuming Wigan don't pull it out of the hat, which really doesn't look likely, I think we have the nucleus of a very good young team now. The second half of the season under Struber has seen a brilliant turnaround. Form table for the last 16 games shows us in 9th. 16 games isn't a flash in the pan - that's a good sustained run of results. In that time only Leeds and Wigan have condeded fewer goals than us. With a few solid additions & keeping the nucleus of the team together, combined with other teams potentially struggling financially (with COVID bringing some overspending chickens home to roost) and what looks on paper to be a slightly weaker league anyway, who's to say we can't have a push at top half or even better?
Yes, I think if the appeal is in vain, which it certainly should be, we could offload fringe players & if there is a decent bid for Woodrow or Brown (4/5 million for the former & 1.5 million for the latter), there is an opportunity to pick up some very good L1 / L2 players. We don't need quantity. We need a combative, mobile striker to work with Chaplin & Schmidt. There must be someone. Those clubs are really up **** creek cash wise. There will be other clubs with this mentality & next season is highly unpredictable. If they keep their manager Bournemouth will be my favourite to go up. Will be too good for most teams.
Three up from league one may struggle - Coventry have Robins who has a bit of experience but I think other 2 will find it hard
I think we need to strengthen with 4 players. im looking forward to seeing how we build on this season and strengthen. I think we need four players If we would have been relegated to L1. We have already cleared some players out and made way and need to decide what we do with Sibbick, McGeehan. Also in assuming we keep the mainstay if this squad. Then when i see the build and plan i get excited. Its when i see them play i usually lose hope
Well I do feel (Wigan appeal hopefully rejected) that we will do ok.ye comings and goings to come but think the "statement" acknowledges that mistakes have been made and will be addressed. good crop of young more experienced players now and nowt much to fear lookin at our last few games so an optimistic.....COYR
I think that 5 million for Woodrow would be reasonably acceptable, and would trust our scouting team to bag a decent replacement for £1.5-£2 million. But if we were to sell Brown for £1.5 million, I'd be extremely disappointed.
I'd be happy never being in the relegation zone, watching our youngsters come on in leaps and bounds playing some exciting football.
That in itself would be great progress and a platform for future growth. I don't think realistically we'll ever go from fighting relegation one season to fighting for promotion to the Premier League the next, but I'd like that to be something we target over a number of years with steady improvements. I'm 25 now, so I'm hoping I've got 75 years left to see the Barnsley crest in the MOTD opening
The way we've progressed to survive we could look at it as have just been promoted to the Championship with a young team that's started to "gel", but now with added Championship experience. Hopefully we can keep hold of all the important players and progress like the Blunts did after their promotion.
I m hoping my kids will get the chance. I can't describe the excitement of that season, and then to finally succeed was stuff that dreams are made of. I think that's why I enjoyed Stendel's tenure so much, it had the same excitement, the same " are we going to do it?" buzz and the town talking football.
Thing with that assuming your safe from relegation with 50 points your only 20 points off the play-offs. Being clear from the relegation zone and accruing more than 50 points to be comfortable you're in the realms of 60 points and thinking it could have been better. I think that's where the club and Flitcroft cocked up in 2013. They didn't push on. Aim high and fall back on comfort.
I'm still basking in the joy and relief of avoiding relegation & not given any serious thought to next season, as yet.
